LEGISLATION TO PROTECT CALVES AND LAMBS FROM VULTURES
The U.S. House of Representatives passed America’s Conservation Enhancement (ACE) Act on Thursday by a voice vote, effectively sending another piece of bipartisan conservation legislation to President Donald Trump’s desk to be signed.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) and the Public Lands Council (PLC) said the bipartisan legislation will protect livestock from predation, compensate livestock producers who experience depredation by federally protected species, and fund methods to reduce conflicts between humans and predators.
PRICE ACT: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
On Oct. 1, 2020, U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (R-S.D.) introduced the PRICE Act, a bill that would provide greater price reporting and transparency and comprehensive risk management solutions while also supporting producer-owned cooperative processing opportunities and add updates to the Packer and Stockyards Act.

KBC PARTNERS WITH KENTUCKY ACADEMY OF FAMILY PHYSICIANS
The Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians (KAFP), chartered in 1948, exists to: improve the health of Kentuckians, promote the value of family medicine, and serve the needs of members in a supportive professional community. KBC is proud to partner with KAFP in support of their recent annual convention, held in Louisville, KY September 24-25.

On Friday, participants heard from Janine Faber, RD, who serves as a health professional contractor to Kentucky’s Beef Checkoff, on the benefits of including beef in a healthy diet. On Saturday morning, KBC staff led attendees in an immersive visit to Mulberry Orchard in nearby Shelby County to learn about the roll Kentucky cow/calf operations play in the Beef Lifecycle. While on the farm in Shelby county, attendees enjoyed an informative and interactive question and answer session with Melissa Mitchell, DVM who discussed the important relationship between beef producers and the veterinary community, highlighting the role antibiotics, vaccination and animal husbandry play in cattle health and performance. KBC is proud to work with the Kentucky Academy of Family Physicians
and appreciates the vital role of the medical community.

EDEN SHALE FARM PRACTICES SPOTTED IN PENNSYLVANIA
From time to time, producers will send in pictures of the practices they’ve implemented on their farm, that are used at Eden Shale. We always enjoy receiving these and seeing how the producers alter those practices to better fit their farm and operation. The most common pictures we receive are of fenceline feeders and tire waterers, but recently a producer out of Pennsylvania, Mr. Ryan Wells, sent us pictures of his structure, that is similar to our large bale feeder.
THINKING ABOUT WEANING AND PRECONDITIONING CALVES TO ADD VALUE? KNOW THE "LINGO"
Traditionally, many KY beef producers with winter/spring born feeder calves market through Special Graded Feeder Calf Sales held in the fall. At these sales, feeder cattle are graded according to the USDA Feeder Cattle Grading Standards, are weighed and sorted into groups (load lots of 48,000-50,000 lbs) and are then sold. Buyers take advantage of these sales to buy larger groups of feeder cattle with similar traits.
