We are proud to announce that our member and Supporter, Azadeh Khalili, an advocate for social change, human rights, racial and gender equality has received "the 30 champions of change" award by the Metro NY Chapter of the USNC for UN Women, for her significant contribution to women's empowerment and gender equality. 

Azadeh Khalili is an innovative social change agent & policy maker with extensive experience in government, philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. She has worked for over 20 years to advance progressive policies and to create better conditions for marginalized communities, including in the field of human rights, sexual & reproductive rights, and the rights of immigrants and low-wage workers. Azadeh Khalili is dedicated to public service and creating sustainable large-scale change through the power of inclusion and collaboration. From 2016-2017, Azadeh Khalili served as the Founding Executive Director of the New York City Commission on Gender Equity. You can read more about Azadeh Khalili here.

Northern California

During the first adult phase of her life, Sima worked in semiconductor industry holding senior engineering positions at Intel, National Semiconductor, and KLA-Tencor Corporations. She earned her B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the University of Science and Technology in Tehran, Iran, where she ranked first in her graduating class & her M.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering from University of Washington in Seattle, Washington. While in graduate school, Sima also developed a program for the Women In Engineering (WIE), which resulted in increased number of women completing first year of engineering studies. The WIE Association in US awarded her 2 times for her contributions. Having gone through some drastic life experiences, after 26 years of engineering work, she was inspired to make a transition & delve into the field of self actualization through different integrated methods of East/West philosophies.     Shiva Farivar
Southern California

At the May 22 City Council Meeting, Shiva Farivar was recognized for her "outstanding achievement for providing excellent public service to enhance the City of Irvine.  In tribute to the honoree, a plaque is permanently displayed on the Wall of Recognition at Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park in Irvine, California. "
Shiva Farivar served as a Community Services Commissioner form 2007-2014, five of which she served as Chair of the Commission. She also chaired the City's Advisory Committee on the Strategic Plan for Children, Youth and Families. Ms. Farivar serves as Vice Chair of the Iranian-American American Community Group of Orange County, and for the past five years, she has directed the Nowruz Festival in Irvine. 

Shiva Farivar was born in Tehran, but spent ten of her childhood years growing up in Germany. In 1978, after graduating from the German High School in Tehran, she moved to California to pursue her higher education. You can read more about Shiva Farivar here

Azita Raji is an American diplomat, banker, and philanthropist. She was nominated by President Obama in 2014 to serve as the United States ambassador to Sweden. She was the first female U.S. ambassador to Sweden, and the first Iranian-born American to serve as a U.S. ambassador. In 2016, she was nominated for State Department's highest award for a non-career ambassador, the Sue M. Cobb Prize for Exemplary Diplomatic Service. Prior to being appointed, Ms. Raji held national leadership roles for the Obama campaign. She has served on numerous national boards and commissions and is a recognized board strategist and advisor. As a former investment banker, Ms. Raji has extensive expertise in global financial markets and has held senior executive positions on Wall Street. In recognition of her contributions to American society, Ambassador Raji has been recognized by The Carnegie Corporation of New York, and is a recipient the Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
