Weekly Thoughts from the Chair:
The Rise of the American Gestapo
All anti-abortionists are zealots, intellectually dishonest, and deceivers. Pro-lifers demand the right to inflict their distorted and perverted ideas on us. Pro-lifers are almost universally pro death penalty. Whatever it is that Pro-lifers cherish – it isn’t life.

Consider that Tucker Carlson, Fox commentator, and the amoralist’s poster child, recently abandoned his pro death penalty stance only when confronted with the aforesaid contradiction. Tucker and Senator Lindsey Graham are trying to see which can be more consistently disingenuous – so who knows what, if anything, either actually believes.

And the un-aborted children? The would-be controllers of reproductive rights flee when it’s time to support and raise said children. Ask the pro-lifer how many unwanted children he or she has adopted. As far as pro-lifers are concerned, an unwanted, yet actually born child, is absolutely someone else’s responsibility, problem, and expense.

There is no Biblical support for Pro-lifers. There is a great deal in the Old Testament that demonstrates that Yahweh was unconcerned with the unborn – and pregnant women. God, as revealed in the New Testament, is equally unhelpful to pro-lifers.

Life began on this planet about 3.7 billion years ago. Human life appeared around about six million years ago. The continuum of life for 3.7 billion years is unbroken. Life does not start and stop like a carnival ride. Undeveloped sperm or eggs are present and alive when each of us is born. Conception is merely the conjunction of already living things.

Pro-life zealots smugly demand: “When does life begin?” It’s a trick question. The factual answer is: life began about 3.7 billion years ago – not magically at conception or when a fetal heartbeat can be detected. The Bible accepts that individual human life commences at the first breath after birth. Pro-lifers have apoplexy when confronted with these simple but indisputable facts.

What do Pro-lifers want? Control. Republicans are pro life only because they want control. They are the would-be elites – the givers of law and rules. Republicans wrap themselves in the trappings of patriotism, spout grandiose bromides about freedom, and election integrity, and the heart beat of the unborn. Republicans would have us believe they embody the American patriotic spirit. They do not. Even Antifa activists denounce Republicans as fascists. Republicans will, if they can, release an American Gestapo to enforce their radical ideas on us all. It’s happening right now – with the Texas heart beat law and the Gestapo enforcement agents it creates.

We must rise up against those who would steal our democracy. Evil prevails if we do nothing. We have to take action, vote, and be heard – like our very lives depend on it – because they do! We cannot let American Democracy end with a primal scream of anguish as the hobnail boot of the would-be Republican Supreme Rulers crush the life out of our democracy.

Hull Mayor Paul Walton Announces Candidacy for Georgia's 9th Congressional District Seat
At the 9th District Democratic Leadership meeting held on September 11 at UNG-Gainesville, Mayor Paul Walton of Hull announced he is running for the Democratic nomination for the US House in Georgia's 9th Congressional District. In his announcement, he said he felt called to run to "make a greater positive impact on more people."

He is committed to addressing issues of national importance: "Medicaid Expansion, Climate Change, Ending Qualified Immunity, Expanding and Protecting Voting Rights and Women's. Rights."

Mayor Walton is in the process of standing up a campaign website, but if you are eager to volunteer to support his campaign, you can reach him via email at walton4congress@gmail.com. You can donate to his campaign via Act Blue at https://secure.actblue.com/donate/common-sens

Also addressing the meeting were Melita Easters, Executive Director & Founding Chair of GeorgiaWIN, Sarah Todd and Justin Pitts of the DPG. The special guest speaker was Saira Draper, who gave a presentation on the new voting laws in Georgia, their potential impact, and the best ways to counteract the Georgia GOP's intentions to tamp down the rise in Democratic voting in Georgia. Initiatives include continuing efforts to register voters, providing assistance to those who need to obtain ID in order to vote, and voters on the shorter timeframes for early voting, especially during runoffs.

The bottom line is that for some people, voting is going to be that much harder, with more hoops to jump through to obtain an absentee (vote by mail) ballot and to drop off that ballot. No longer will you be able to drive through the Hall County Admin building to drop off your vote after hours. All drop boxes will be accessible ONLY during early voting hours and ONLY inside early voting locations. That's why we encourage everyone to make a plan to vote early if you are able. Under the Blue To Do section, we've included a link to the county elections website with all the information about absentee and early voting for the November 2 municipal elections.

Learn about the process now through voting in your local elections. Not only will it help making your voice heard at the local level, it will also familiarize you with the new processes so that come 2022, when the governorship, a Congressional seat, and a US Senate seat are on the line, you will be ready to TURN GEORGIA BLUE!
