Help support our students in need at the District's 3rd annual Necessity Drive.

The annual Necessity Drive provides necessity items to under-resourced families of students who attend Shelby County Schools. Each year, individuals, businesses and/or organizations provide items or monetary contributions to support our students. This year's drive takes place on Friday, September 20, from 4-6 p.m. at East High. View a list of needed items and details on making donations online or via CASH APP here.
It's National Cholesterol Education Awareness Month
The CDC reports heart disease and stroke rank number 1 and 5 respectively for top killers of Americans, and cholesterol can be a major contributor to both. This CIGNA flyer has tips for keeping your cholesterol under control.

Stamp Out Stigma
SCS and Cigna want to support our employees’ whole health – not just physically, but also mentally. CIGNA is partnering with Stamp Out Stigma (SOS) – a national initiative to reduce the stigma surrounding mental illness and substance use disorders.

World Suicide Prevention Month
Did you know that one in five Americans has a mental health disorder? In addition, thousands of individuals of all ages, genders and backgrounds die by suicide every year. SCS has several programs to help: Methodist EAP offers help to all full-time employees and their eligible dependents. Omada brings a new way to get healthy!
In partnership with SCS and CIGNA, employees can participate in Omada, a digital health program that equips you with everything you need to foster a healthy lifestyle. Participants get a wireless smart scale, full-time health coaching, an interactive and adaptable health program and more. Best of all, it’s all free! A simple 1-minute health screener can determine your eligibility. Invitation emails are being sent weekly to employees who have a CIGNA health plan participants. Based on CIGNA’s latest health data, many SCS employees covered under our health plans seek treatment for musculoskeletal (29%) or circulatory (24%) issues. Many employees have jobs that require them to sit in front of a computer for a large portion of the day. Financial Stress Seminar

The Orpheum is offering new PD opportunities beginning September 10.

Our friends at The Orpheum have a new series of virtual PD sessions in September, October, January, February and March. The sessions are tailored for specific grade levels and cover a variety of topics and strategies through theater and performing arts instruction. Great opportunity for students a chance to see the premier of the new documentary on Coach Jerry C. Johnson!

The spotlight is on Memphis sports as the independent film “1st Forgotten Champions: The Legacy of Jerry C. Johnson” by Morreco Coleman makes its debut in the Burbank International Film Festival this week. The documentary chronicles the life and times of award-winning Coach Jerry C. Johnson, who served for 46 years as the head men’s basketball coach at LeMoyne-Owen College, the only HBCU located in Memphis. The Burbank International Film Festival is virtual, and the film will be broadcast Sunday, September 13. The Jerry C. Johnson Foundation purchased tickets for the first 100 people to email at jcjfoundationmemphis@gmail.com, so please share this opportunity with your students.
