Coronavirus information from COG

As the Coronavirus situation unfolds in our community, information changes quickly - we will do our best to keep you informed of those updates at www.guidinggolden.com/covid-19. There you will find city cancellations and closures, updates from the county and state as we receive them, public safety messages, and specific messages from City departments on how they will manage business while offices are closed to the public. We also include ways you can help others in your community during this difficult time.

Closure & Cancellations Highlights
  • City Facilities including City Hall, Police and Fire Departments (911 10th St.), City Hall Annex (1000 10th St.), and Planning and Public Works Building (1445 10th St.) are closed to the public effective today, March 17, 2020 until further notice. We are still conducting business, you can reach us at our phone number 303-384-8000 and our email address cityofgolden@cityofgolden.net.
  • All City board and commission meetings have been cancelled through the end of the month. City Council will still meet virtually. Read more below for information on how you can participate virtually!
  • The Golden Community Center and Golden History Museum are both closed to the public. The original plan was to tentatively reopen at the end of March, which the Museum still hopes to do, however, the Governor has mandated a 30-day closure of all gyms in the state. The new date for reopening the GCC is April 16.
  • Colorado has closed restaurants and bars to dine-in statewide. Delivery, take-out, walk-up service, drive-up service, and drive-through service are still allowed, however.
  • The Police Department now has an online reporting tool to enable citizens to easily file reports online. Please remember, this is NOT to be used for emergencies, crimes in progress, or where suspect information is known.
  • Building Permits are available by phone or email at 303-384-8151 or building@cityofgolden.netor you can download a building permit application. Inspectors will still be conducting outdoor inspections, but we will not be doing indoor inspections until further notice. Staff has placed a drop box in front of the building at 1445 10th Street for plans or permits but please make payments by phone. The City will not be issuing any new Right-of-way permits, only emergency ROW permits will be issued at this time..
  • Jefferson County offices are closed to the public, with the exception of the courts and those services related to law enforcement and limited human services. Learn more at www.jeffco.us/coronavirus.

Scam Coronavirus Email Alert!

A malicious website pretending to be a live map for Coronavirus COVID-19 Global Cases by Johns Hopkins University is circulating on the internet waiting for unwitting internet users to visit the website (slightly altered for your safety with link removed):  www.jeffco.us/CivicAlerts.aspx?AID=numbers (PLEASE DO NOT VISIT!)

Visiting the website infects the computer with an information stealing program - it is used to steal browsing history, cookies, ID/passwords, cryptocurrency and more. It can also download additional malware onto infected machines.

As the coronavirus continues to spread and more apps and technologies are developed to monitor it, we will likely be seeing an increase in corona malware. Please use caution when opening emails or visiting websites claiming to have information about the coronavirus.

We recommend only visiting reputable sites and never clicking on links or attachments in emails claiming to take you to the information. This is the link to the real Johns Hopkins coronavirus map. https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html
Wipes Clog Pipes
Reminder from Public Works - Please watch what you flush!

Just a reminder from the Public Works Department:  With the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) concerns at a high, many people are using wet wipes and paper towels and may be tempted to flush them.

Please, DO NOT FLUSH WET WIPES of any kind, NOR PAPER TOWELS down the toilet. Neither breaks down as sufficiently as toilet paper and could cause backups for the city's sewer system. Even wipes that claim to be "flushable" are not safe.
