A Day in the Life
Welcome to a Day in the Life of:
Akron Intake Advocate, Crystin

Ever wanted to catch a glimpse of what being a victim advocate really entails? While there are no two days that are exactly the same, our Akron Intake Advocate, Crystin shares what a day may look like for her.

Crystin, who works from a VAP satellite office in the Akron Municipal Court, plays a vital role, making sure victims who are navigating the justice system receive our services. Crystin reads through the court dockets, obtains police reports, and attends arraignment court, looking for any cases that might have someone in need of our services.

In addition to connecting with victims via phone to inform them of their rights and educate them on the criminal justice process, she helps them by assessing their immediate needs, safety planning, and connecting them to long term advocacy services if needed.

Crystin's favorite part about being the Akron Intake Advocate is being in the courtroom. Being in the courtroom allows her to gather as much information as possible, which helps her provide the best services possible to the victims she works with.
The Akron Intake Advocate and the Akron Municipal Court Advocacy Program was financially assisted by the Akron Bar Foundation. The views expressed herein do not necessarily represent those of the Akron Bar Foundation.

Victim Advocates | Part-Time | Weekends | Remote

The ideal candidates for these roles will have a passion for helping those in need and possess the confidence to work independently with limited support. Victim Advocates provide trauma-informed services to victims, family members, and communities, impacted by crisis, violence, or tragedy by offering immediate crisis intervention and short/long term advocacy, via phone, text, chat, or in person to address the aftermath of their victimization.

Evening Victim Advocate | 4:00PM - 12:00AM

Overnight Victim Advocate | 12:00AM - 8:00AM
Residents and employees of Summit County need crisis intervention services to address the aftermath of their victimization or traumatic events before being able to engage in their everyday routines. Victim Assistance Program is the only agency in Summit County providing this immediate service, 24 hours a day.

As a SCCRT volunteer, you will provide trauma-informed services to victims, family members and communities impacted by crisis, violence, or tragedy, by offering immediate crisis intervention and advocacy via phone, chat, text, or in-person to address the aftermath of the client’s victimization.

Not all work is done on the front lines, as the needs of victims fluctuate from “all the time” to next to none. Providing crisis response and advocacy services are only a part of the impact you’ll have for our agency. During your downtime, not only will you help the agency complete much needed tasks, but you will have the opportunity to enhance your own skills through required trainings.
Our offices will be closed on Monday, September 6, 2021 in observance of Labor Day but our advocates are always here to listen.

Just call our 24/7 hotline to speak with an advocate.
