"Window of Heaven: Hearing God"
Mark 1: 9-15
"While he was coming up out of the water, Jesus saw heaven splitting open and the Spirit, like a dove, coming down on him. And there was a voice from heaven." (Mark 1:10-11)
Jesus marks his transition into ministry through baptism; an act of surrender. Some have said that we can't experience transformation in our lives until we reach such a moment of surrender ourselves. In such a moment, the window of heaven opens and Jesus hears the voice of God: "You are mine. You are chosen. You are my pride." Such words from God are important for all of us to hear... especially when what comes next is the push into the wild. Whose voice do you hear when you're in the throes of the wild yourself?

The five Wednesdays between Ash Wednesday and Holy Week will offer a brief mid-week meditation by our Pastors as they "Pray the Windows" of our city. Video Meditations will be shared via email by Noon each Wednesday and can be viewed at your convenience. Glean further insight into the Lenten season and join in the prayers at various windows of Columbia from City Hall, local schools, health departments and beyond. Opportunities for church members to partner with our Home Centered members in the sharing of these meditations are available and encouraged.

Children's "Virtual Pathways"
The gospels are filled with stories of Jesus being welcomed into family homes. Jesus is always entering, being invited, or being welcomed "under our roof" in meaningful and surprising ways. This coming week our Children's Sunday School will begin exploring all the ways we invite Jesus into our homes and into our lives. We hope your child will join us at 9:00 am each Sunday morning! Aimee, our children's director, will be delivering the Virtual Pathways Sunday School kits this weekend. Earth-shattering occasions that transform life as we know it? How do we prepare for that?! Join us for ARISE! as we prepare for a journey that leads to the biggest event of them all! Lent Devotional Partners Still Needed!
Based upon the success of Advent Devotional Partnerships, the Worship Ministry Team and CareLink Ministries are joining together again to create devotional partnerships during Lent.
We are asking BCC members to volunteer to make a connection with our homebound members and share a daily devotion. Lent devotionals for use by both partners will be provided. Time is negotiable; perhaps meeting by phone M-W-F for 15-20 minutes. Partners will determine details.

Register Now for Virtual Women's Retreat
10:00 am. The retreat is free to all participants. All needed information and Zoom links will be provided in an email after you register.
Retreat materials bag pick up this Sunday, February 21, 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. Pull up under the front awning and the bags will be brought out to you. After that, bags can be delivered or picked up in the office from Ingrid.

Need Help Getting Your Covid Vaccine?
Our CareLink team would like to provide support to our home based members to not only get registered for the vaccine, but also provide transportation to get the vaccine. If you or someone you know would appreciate help with this, please contact Ingrid at the church office at 573.445.5312 or [email protected].
In addition to the support we can provide, the health department is developing a program for getting the vaccine to home based people who meet Medicare classifications. Please contact the health department at 573.874.2489 to make sure you are on the home vaccination list, even if you are on other lists.

Caregiver & Grief Support Group Open to All
Broadway's CareLink Ministry hosts a community-wide "Caregiver & Grief Support Group" on the first Monday of each month from noon - 1:15 pm. Although we usually meet in the BCC large conference room, we have been meeting by ZOOM for almost a whole year. If you are a caregiver of a family member or friend or if you have lost your loved one and would like to join other survivors, please contact Patsy Dalton, facilitator, at [email protected] or 573-356-6036. This understanding, loving group could be just what you need! Our next meeting is on March 1.

Race Forward Book Study Begins March 4
The Race Forward group is coordinating a study of the book Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson. The book compares racism in the United States to the Caste system in India and explores the way the racist strategies were used by Hitler and the Third Reich in Germany. A kickoff for this book study is planned for March 4 on Zoom. Groups are forming and most will start in March. In addition to the various book study groups, we have invited some guest speakers who will address issues in the book. All guest speaker sessions will be on Zoom and will be available to all groups. Our first Zoom session with a guest speaker is March 4. Our speaker will be Dr. Brad Nichols from the MU History Department whose research focuses on "Caste systems."

Home Heating Bill Assistance
Earlier this week, Governor Parson announced that the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Energy Crisis Intervention Program will improve assistance offered to eligible low-income Missourians.
When a household's energy source has been shut off or is at risk of disconnection, the winter Energy Crisis Intervention Program (ECIP), which runs November through May, pays the minimum amount needed on the fuel bill to get the household out of crisis. Starting this winter, ECIP will pledge the maximum disconnect amount (up to $800) toward an eligible participant's owed balance.
It is very important for low-income Missourians who have received a disconnect notice or know a disconnect notice is coming to get help now to prevent service disconnection at a later date. To learn more about the LIHEAP program, view this short video. Missourians can submit the LIHEAP application form online.
Missourians in need of information on LIHEAP, Food Stamp, Medicaid, Child Care Subsidy, or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families benefit programs can visit dss.mo.gov. Individuals can also apply for these services 24/7 online by visiting MyDSS.mo.gov.
