Tracey Gould's 25th Anniversary at Senior Coastsiders!
It is hard to believe but Senior Coastsiders has been lucky enough to have Tracey Gould as our care manager for 25 years! To celebrate all of the amazing work she has done in her two and a half decades with the organization, we are creating a scrapbook full of notes and cards from the community. Do you have a favorite memory, want to wish her a congratulations, or just say thanks? Please write a note or card and drop it off at the center. We will continue to add to the scrapbook through the end of December.
In early 2022 we are excited to be launching an automated check-in system in partnership with My Senior Center. This new, efficient technology will help us better organize things at the Center. Regular visitors and volunteers will be provided with a small key tag to swipe across a scanner that will be located in the lobby. You will then be able to press the touchscreen to select the activities you’ll be participating in that day. If you participate in Senior Coastsiders activities, please swing by the office to make sure we have your most updated information to enter into the system.
Lunches, classes, and programs are in full swing!

We are offering many classes in one of three different formats: virtually over Zoom, in-person, or a hybrid model. We hope to have options for everyone and welcome your feedback.

CLASSES:
  • Zoom links and online waivers for all virtual classes are available on our website.
  • If you are coming for in-person classes, please plan to arrive a bit early to complete new waivers.
  • In case of canceled classes, we will do our best to provide links for previously recorded classes below each class description.
LUNCH:
  • Our dining room is open Mondays-Fridays starting at 11:45am and lunch is served at noon.
  • Birthday lunch is the third Wednesday of each month.

See below for our current class listings and the October menu. For a full list of class descriptions and instructors, click HERE.

Just for Fun!

A Note from the Executive Director
The holiday season is almost upon us! Having grown up in Africa, many of my memories of this time of year are quite different to those of people who grew up in the Northern Hemisphere. For example, in Africa at this time of year we would be heading into the long, warm days of summer and not be about to end daylight savings and turning our clocks back (which happens on November 7th this year). In Africa, we would be eating summer fruits and vegetables like watermelon, granadillas (a member of the passion fruit family) and mealies – which in America you call corn! We certainly wouldn’t put marshmallows on top of sweet potatoes and try to pass that off as a vegetable dish! And in Africa we wouldn’t be looking forward to that wonderful and resoundingly American holiday – Thanksgiving. I love this holiday because instead of focusing on presents and fancy decorations the focus is on family, friends, being grateful, and delicious food! We will be having a scrumptious Thanksgiving meal of roast turkey at the Center on Wednesday November 24th, and I invite you all to join us.

If you would like to prepare something different to eat over this holiday season, then I highly recommend you purchase a copy of our new book that will be available in time to give as holiday gifts. “Cookin' on the Coast – Favorite Recipes from Senior Coastsiders” is made up of tried and tested family favorite recipes gathered from our Coastside community. In some cases, these recipes have been handed down across generations.

In my newsletter piece last month, I mentioned that I was expecting my first grandchild. Indiana was born on 10/13. Here’s a picture of her on her first outing to a local pumpkin farm. Thank you to the many people who sent good wishes and congratulations. I am so looking forward to the difference a child can make as we celebrate holiday seasons to come.

Best wishes to you all

Sandi

Testing is Still Important
Testing remains an important strategy in continuing to reduce the spread of the disease and to protect individuals who have not been vaccinated. Testing is available for all ages, including young children and infants.
People who are vaccinated or unvaccinated should get tested if they have symptoms of COVID-19. Unvaccinated persons should get tested if they have had close contact with someone with COVID-19 or have concerns about being infected or exposed.
