Tri-County Health Update
Dear CEC Castle Rock School Community,
The Tri-County Health Department (TCHD) passed a new order Monday evening that requires masks to be worn by anyone two years of age or older in all school and childcare settings in the Tri-County area starting September 1. This legal mandate applies to all our students and staff. Unless it is rescinded or altered, it will expire on December 31, 2021. Please make sure students are prepared to wear a mask in the building starting tomorrow (September 1) morning. For information about medical exemptions from the mask mandate, please contact our school nurse Ashley Bose at Ashley.bose@coloradoearlycolleges.org.
As a school that values choice, we know this is a difficult situation for our community. We will update you on additional information as we gather it from TCHD.
Sincerely,
Cory Harbor
Head of School
CEC Castle Rock

Clearing up Confusion Regarding PSAT NMSQT:
I apologize for any confusion regarding the PSAT NMSQT. Here is what we know from College Board:
(1) Sophomores may take the test as a practice test. Some students want to take the test to practice before they take the test their junior year when the test will count.
(2) Juniors may sign up for the test. If your son or daughter is a junior, s/he/they may sign up by September 10th to take the test.
Please send me an e-mail if you would like to take the PSAT NMSQT Wednesday, October 13th. The test is $18.00 and will be administered at Inverness. Again, I apologize for the confusion.

School Accountability Committee
CEC recognizes the importance, shared responsibility, and partnership between family, schools, and community. Parental (including guardians and other members of the student’s family involved in the student’s education) involvement in the education of students contributes greatly to achievement, and to the positive school environment and experience. And an important piece of parent and family engagement is School Accountability Committees (SACs).
SAC responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-
Advising the principal concerning the preparation of the school's Unified Improvement Plan (UIP).
-
Making recommendations to the principal concerning priorities for spending school funds.
-
Helping school staff increase parent partnerships with teachers, fostering the parents' role in creating student academic experience.
-
Helping school staff increase the level of overall parent engagement with the school.
-
Working to recruit people to serve on the School Accountability Committee.
-
Meeting at least quarterly to discuss whether school leadership, personnel, and infrastructure are advancing or impeding implementation of the school's improvement plan.
Other Parent Volunteer Opportunities
We are soliciting interest from parents on who would like to volunteer to support CECCR. There will be volunteer support opportunities such as textbook organization, teacher and appreciation events, student activities, marketing and outreach, and food service. We will be in contact with you in September to discuss your interest!

Safe2Tell Student Ambassadors
We are looking for 10-12 high school students from across the state, with diverse backgrounds, that have a passion and want to be more involved with making our schools and communities safer. Our focus this year is to break the code of silence, and with the help of these student ambassadors, we want to encourage more students to reach out with concerns, whether that’s to a trusted adult in their life or through Safe2Tell. This student-led group, with guidance from Safe2Tell staff, will meet about every 6 weeks as a large group, and one hour in smaller groups every other week, throughout the school year to complete two big projects:
1) A project that the Safe2Tell office has tasked them with
2) A project that they come up with to support student safety in their school or across Colorado
