A Message from Our Principal
Dear Thunderbird Families,

It was great to see so many students and families at our Back to Business Day yesterday. Seeing our campus start to come alive again was inspiring! Thank you for helping to prepare your student(s) for the first day of school tomorrow. Our staff wants to help our students to feel welcome at Tolt and adapt to attending school all day with our health and safety procedures. Here is information about tomorrow that may be helpful for you to share with your student(s):

  • Upon arriving at school, students will go directly to their 1st period class. There are no in-person or Skyward attestations this year. Before school and during passing times, staff members will be located throughout campus helping students to find their classes. During the first days of school, our teachers are very understanding about students who are late because they need additional time to find their classes.

  • Students will receive a copy of their schedule with a map on the back and a school planner in their 1st period class.

  • For students to maintain physical distancing of three feet or more as much as possible, classroom desks and chairs will be spread out in ways students may not have previously seen. Students will use a wipe to clean their desk at the end of each class period. Hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout campus.

  • Students should bring a mask (and maybe some extras) as they will be required during the school day and on the bus with the exception of while eating lunch, a water bottle (while our water bottle filling stations will be open, our water fountains will be closed), and the other items on our school supply list. Students who ordered PE shirts will receive their shirt from their PE teacher at the beginning of their PE class (which may be at the start of 3rd quarter).

  • Returning RSD students should bring their charged, district-issued laptop with them on the first day of school. Returning 8th graders who turned in their laptop over the summer and have not gotten it back yet will get it back in their 1st period class. New RSD students will have laptops checked out to them starting on the first day of school and as they are prepared.

  • During the first day of school, students will learn about our health and safety procedures, lunch procedures, bus procedures, and participate in community-building activities in their classes. Throughout the rest of the week, students will continue to discuss how we do things at Tolt and engage in activities to build relationships among students and staff.

  • We will return to our normal bell schedule this year. Students will attend school between 8:25AM and 2:57PM. On early-release Fridays, students will attend between 8:25AM and 1:27PM. Click here for the full bell schedule.

For parents and guardians who plan on driving their student(s) to school, please see our updated pick-up and drop-off information below. Please do not drop students off prior to 8:10AM, which is when we will have staff members available to supervise students. For students riding the bus, the bus transportation schedules are available here.

Students are scheduled into their classes in a way that balances our classes and lunches. Balanced class sizes and lunches help to maintain physical distancing. Schedule change requests are typically only granted if there is an error in a student's schedule. Please contact your student’s counselor if you have a question about their schedule.

While it is exciting we will be welcoming all our students back onto campus full-time tomorrow, it is important to remember we are not back to normal. Let’s continue to help each other out by extending patience and grace. By working together, we will make this a great year of learning for our students!

Warmly,
Amie Karkainen, Principal
