Distracted Driving

Awareness Month

Distracted driving is any activity that diverts a person's attention away from the primary task of driving. This includes things such as using a cell phone to talk or text, eating, talking, to a passenger, singing along with the radio or even thinking about what your day holds.

There are three types of distractions:

  • Cognitive: takes your mind off what you are doing
  • Visual: takes your eyes off the road
  • Manual: takes your hands off the wheel

While all three types of distractions endanger drivers' safety, texting is the most alarming because it involves all three types of distractions.

In fact, studies have shown that talking on a cell phone creates risks similar to driving with a .08 blood alcohol level!

Did You Know?

You may think that going hands-free on your cell phone in the car is less distracting than actually picking up your phone; but it isn't. Why? Because your phone/conversation is still causing a cognitive distraction.

Public Comment Requested on

Title VI & Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plans

The TPO's Title VI program establishes and implements procedures to ensure we comply with federal and state statutes and regulations regarding discrimination. The plan also provides the process to file a complaint. The document covers race, color, national origin, sex, age, disability, religion, family and income discrimination.

The Limited English Proficiency (LEP) Plan ensures that we recognize the needs of LEP members of our community, implement a plan to communicate effectively and ensures reasonable access to our processes, information and decision-making.

Both of these documents are available for review and comment until April 27, 2022 at which time the TPO Board will take action on them at their meeting beginning at 9:00 a.m. Additional information, including how to provide comments, is available on the TPO website at: More information on Title VI-LEP Plans

Earth Day.png

April 22 is Earth Day

Earth Day is April 22, 2022 and the theme this year is "Invest in our Planet". In recognition of Earth Day and every day, there are so many things you can do to help the environment. Why not try one or all of the following:

  • Take transit instead of your car to work
  • Ride your bike to the grocery store instead of your car
  • Carpool with a coworker to work
  • Use reusable grocery bags
  • Turn off the lights
  • Use a reusable water bottle
  • Switch to energy-saving light bulbs
  • Telecommute if possible
  • Build a community garden

Upcoming TPO Activities

Public Participation Plan (PPP):

The TPO's PPP outlines strategies to ensure that members of the public are able to participate in the TPO's decision-making process in ways that are both meaningful and inclusive. The plan educates the public on the different ways they can get involved and provides direction to the TPO staff regarding public involvement activities. It also identifies how the organization will promote and encourage public participation.

In April, the TPO committees and board will receive presentations on the draft PPP. Public comment will be accepted on the draft for 45 days, beginning April 27 through June 10, 2022.
