Music is at once the most wonderful, the most alive of all the arts - it is the most abstract, the most perfect, the most pure - and the most sensual. I listen with my body and it is my body that aches in response to the passion and pathos embodied in this music.

If I should ever die, God forbid, let this be my epitaph:
THE ONLY PROOF HE NEEDED
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF GOD
WAS MUSIC

Without music life would be a mistake.

Ten years I have been forgetting all I learned so lovingly about music, and just because I am a boob. All that remains is Bach. I find that I never lose Bach. I don't know why I have always loved him so. Except that he is so pure, so relentless and incorruptible, like a principle of geometry.

Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and that which cannot remain silent.
After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music... When the inexpressible had to be expressed, Shakespeare laid down his pen and called for music.

Earlier this week I replied to this online question:

Should You Charge Less for Online Lessons?

My answer was: I charge more because I teach online after studio lesson hours and I consider it more like overtime pay. No student has ever questioned me about my logic.

Constructed by Fender Principal Master Builder Ron Thorn, the ultra high-end, one-off Meteora features an ash body, a quartersawn maple neck - with a '60s C carve profile, bone nut and American Pro tuners - and a rosewood fingerboard, with pearloid block inlays, a 9.5" radius and 6105 frets. Unlike the standard Meteora, which is built with Tele or dual-humbucker pickup configurations, the Custom Shop Meteora packs TV Jones Classic and Classic Plus pickups.
IN THE BASSMENT

The Squier Mini Precision Bass includes a 28.6-inch scale, which is smaller than the regular 30-inch short scale. Available in Dakota Red or Black, the bass is built with a poplar body, maple neck, and Indian Laurel fingerboard. It has a thin, lightweight body, short-scale neck and easy-to-play "C"-shaped profile, a  split single-coil pickup with volume and tone controls, and a hardtail bridge.

WATCH THIS

It's both saddening and at the same time quite uplifting to see the two of them here in this clip from the CBS News Nightwatch show. The clip appears to be from around 1983, judging by King and Winter's appearances and by the host, Felicia Jeter, who was a co-anchor on the show in its early years. Whenever it was made, it features the two men talking about the blues, sharing their insights and - best of all - playing together.

While a guitarist of the Renaissance may have played their way through delightful court music on a tiny instrument designed for strumming, by the time the 20th century rolled around the guitar had increased dramatically in size and totally changed construction. Somehow, these incredibly dissimilar instruments both come under the category of classical guitar. Let's see how we got from Renaissance and Baroque instruments to modern instruments designed for maximum projection.
GREAT GEAR

Named after the amount of uncompressed stereo recording time it possesses (1440 seconds, or 24 minutes), the 1440 Stereo Looper features storage for up to 20 loops and unlimited overdubs. The pedal is anchored by two footswitches, stop/FX and loop, the latter of which users can hold to undo/redo. The loop switch can be set up to stop the loop on a double-tap, while an external footswitch can also be connected to select loops and for undo/redo.
ARTIST AWARENESS

Aerosmith is currently enjoying a residency in Las Vegas while eyeing their 50th anniversary, which is just over the horizon in October 2020. So, if you've sold 150 million albums, won a stack of Grammys, Billboard and MTV Video Music Awards, nabbed a Soul Train award for Best Rap Single and are producing your biggest show ever after half a century on the road, you might wanna hear what Tom has to say. Without going into too much detail, two companies - THX and L-Acoustics have partnered with the band to supply the world's first THX Certified live performance presented in L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound.
