Beautiful Beloveds,

I love that every minute of everyday, the Christ is offering us invitations to enter into the tenderness of living, which is what discipleship is all about. DOING love in God, to ourselves and to one another all through our joys, our waiting, and our heartbreak, whatever each day brings us. I believe that’s what it is to be salt and light.

Jesus said, “Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth…. You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world." The MSG, Matthew 5:13-14

Love,

Invitation

Oh do you have time

to linger

for just a little while

out of your busy

and very important day

for the goldfinches

that have gathered

in a field of thistles

for a musical battle,

to see who can sing

the highest note,

or the lowest,

or the most expressive of mirth,

or the most tender?

Their strong, blunt beaks

drink the air

as they strive

melodiously

not for your sake

and not for mine

and not for the sake of winning

but for sheer delight and gratitude –

believe us, they say,

it is a serious thing

just to be alive

on this fresh morning

in the broken world.

I beg of you,

do not walk by

without pausing

to attend to this

rather ridiculous performance.

It could mean something.

It could mean everything.

It could be what Rilke meant, when he wrote:

You must change your life.

Dear St. Gregorians,

My family and I want to thank you for all your love and prayers which have surrounded us during this time of great grief.

With love and appreciation,

Brown Bag Lecture Series

Our next Brown Bag Lecture will be “Healthy Brain and Healthy Body: The Science of Aging Well” on Sunday, Feb. 5 from 3-5PM in our Parish Hall. The presenter will be Caleb Snead, UGA College of Public Health, Cognitive Aging, and Research Education Center. This session is for all ages and focuses on how nutrition, exercise, social relationships, and learning new information lead to a healthy brain and healthy body! Come join us! Bring a snack, if you’d like! We ask that all participants wear masks. Rhonda will have a box on hand.

Acolyte & Eucharistic Minister Training

Our way of worship as Episcopalians requires many individuals. Two important roles are Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers. Acolytes carry the crosses and torches (candles) during the services. Anyone over the age of 6 can serve as an acolyte. Eucharistic ministers assist the clergy with the distribution of the bread and wine. Anyone over the age of 15 may serve as a Eucharistic minister.

Since acolytes and eucharistic ministers must work together in worship, we will have a joint training session for both at 11AM am on Saturday, February 11. If you have any questions, please contact David Stooksbury (davidemory@me.com).

FAMILY PROMISE

Thanks to so many for donating to the Family Promise Amazon wishlist! The program director Madison Saunders told me that a number of you have participated in this request. Now, a new request: Because several churches have dropped out of the program, we will get four weeks in 2023, these are: March 5-12; April 30-May 7; August 13-20, and November 12-19. Please put these in your calendars and look for a signup genius as our first week gets closer. You can also email Annette Bates at bateskannette@gmail.com to let her know of your interest in participating. There is no longer a need for transportation, only for meals and evening, overnight and weekend hosts. It's so good to be in community with you who are so generous with your time and talents!

Welcoming Request

Greeters are needed for the 10:30AM worship services. Please add your name to the sign-up sheet on the inside of the nave double doors.
