Red Cliff News & Updates
Protecting Ma'iingan: Council Passes Resolution Opposing Upcoming Wisconsin Fall Wolf Kill
The Red Cliff Band has passed Resolution 8.2.21D opposing the Wisconsin Fall Ma'iingan (wolf) kill. The Red Cliff Band restates its opposition to any state-sanctioned Ma'iingan kill and has joined in litigation with others against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in an effort to reverse the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's March 2019 decision to remove Ma'iingan from the list of endangered species protected by federal law.

Read the entire Resolution 8.2.21D for details.

Watch PBS Wisconsin's Documentary Ma'iingan Brother Wolf:
With insight from Ojibwe elders, biologists and artist Rabbett Before Horses Strickland, this film captures enduring spiritual connections with Brother Wolf, the lasting bonds and responsibilities shared between native people and the wolf species, and the opportunities and challenges presented by the reintroduction and protection of the animals across reservation lands.
Wolf Camp Cancelled Due to COVID-19 Cases
Organizers hoping to reschedule
Wolf Camp has been postponed due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases within Red Cliff. Wolf Camp is expected to be rescheduled for a different week depending on COVID-19 activity.

With the spike in COVID-19 cases, Red Cliff Health officials and Tribal Administration decided to postpone Wolf Camp entirely in an effort to protect Red Cliff youth and limit the spread of the virus.

Wolf Camp is an opportunity for Red Cliff youth aged 8-18 to participate in various activities such as archery, hatchet throwing, fishing, canoeing, arts, bow drill, traditional games, teachings and more.

VA processing disability claims for certain conditions related to particulate matter
VA is now processing disability claims for asthma, rhinitis and sinusitis on a presumptive basis based on particulate matter exposures during military service in Southwest Asia and certain other areas – if these conditions manifested within 10 years of a qualifying period of military service.
This will expand benefits for Veterans who served in:
  • Afghanistan, Djibouti, Syria, and Uzbekistan during the Persian Gulf War, from September 19, 2001, to the present, or
  • The Southwest Asia theater of operations from August 2, 1990, to the present
If you have a pending claim for one or more of these conditions, you don’t need to do anything. We’ll send you a decision notice when we complete our review.
For more information on the new presumptive conditions, visit our website at Airborne Hazards and Burn Pit Exposures - Public Health (va.gov)
To apply for benefits, Veterans and survivors may visit VA.gov or call toll-free at 800-827-1000.
