Share Your Ideas To Improve City Parks
What improvements would you like to see at City parks and the Shorb Community Center? Do you want more trees, benches, lighting, picnic tables, drinking fountains, or shade structures? Why are park services or parks in general important to you? The City would like your input as we prepare to submit grant applications to make proposed improvements to Story Park, Pocket Park, Burke Heritage Park, Shorb Clinic, Gateway Plaza Park, and renovations to the pool locker rooms at Alhambra Park and Granada Park. APD Hires and Promotions
Alhambra Police added three new members to the department this month. Police Clerk Karen Dare grew up in the San Gabriel Valley. She is currently assigned to the Record Section. APD hired two police officers as laterals from Los Angeles School Police. Both officers Norman Yau and Francisco Avelar have at least 15 years of law enforcement experience.
Five members of the department also received promotions: Sergeant Michael Montano, Sergeant Kevin Liang, Lieutenant Ruben Soriano, Corporal David Munson, and Corporal Thomas Quiroz. They are all currently assigned to Field Services. Congratulations!
APD Implements Area Command Model to Strengthen Community Relationships

The Alhambra Police Department is implementing the Area Command Model to boost engagement with the public and strengthen relationships with the community.

Under this model, the City is divided into four geographic areas. The boundaries are separated by Mission Road and Atlantic Boulevard. A Police Commander is assigned to each area and is responsible for developing key relationships and understanding the issues and concerns unique to their service area.

“This approach allows our officers to build effective relationships with the community and respond proactively to help solve problems,” said Tim Vu, Chief of Police.

The objective of this command structure is to aggressively address crime issues and improve quality of life for residents.

Chief Vu held a Virtual Town Hall earlier this month, and also presented the information to the City Council.

Overseeing Area 1 Command is Lieutenant Tai Seki, followed by Commander Garrett Kennedy for Area 2 Command, Lieutenant Ruben Soriano for Area 3 Command and Commander Sean Heckers for Area 4 Command.

Donations Needed for Spark of Love Toy Drive
Alhambra Fire Department is joining ABC7, the Southern California Firefighters and Toys for Tots, along with our presenting sponsor Subaru, in celebrating the 28th year of the Spark of Love Toy Drive – the largest community toy drive in the nation.
This special community campaign collects new, unwrapped toys and sports equipment for underserved children and teens in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Orange, Ventura and Riverside counties. Over the past two and a half decades, the Spark of Love Toy Drive has successfully collected more than nine million toys!
Due to the effects of the pandemic and devastating wildfires, our community partners anticipate this year’s requests for toys will reach higher than ever. To help meet this historic demand and ensure deserving kids receive some holiday joy, Spark Love is going online, transitioning to an all-virtual effort by partnering with myregistry.com.
HOW TO DONATE
Even though COVID safety protocols will prevent Southland fire stations from collecting toys, supporting the Spark of Love has never been easier. Safe, quick, and convenient donations are possible through the Spark of Love registry. Financial donations are also welcome, as they allow us to provide toys for communities with overwhelming needs.
TEXT TO GIVE: Text “TOY” to 310-929-6907
To make a donation via credit card. All proceeds will go to buying toys or sports equipment for the children.
The toy drive will run through December 24, 2020.
