Join us for worship this Sunday, August 30, via our virtual worship service broadcast! We will post the link to the service here at 8:00am on Sunday.
We will also post the worship service link to the CGS Facebook page, and send it out via email on Sunday. You may access the bulletin for this week's service here, and view Kids' Notes here.

As a reminder, you may give to CGS online here. (If you have questions, you may reference this online giving tutorial here.) You may also mail a check to the church (3741 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707) if you prefer.

We will also include a Sermon Discussion Guide in Sunday morning's email with worship service link. These questions are for both individuals and community groups.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Care Teams for Teachers
Our teachers are facing a huge challenge this Fall! Join a small group of CGS folk in supporting one of them! Anyone can participate. We encourage Community Groups to form a team together. These groups are:
  • Short-Term—The commitment lasts only through December
  • Simple—Every week you will receive an email from your team leader sharing how you can pray for your teacher
  • No formal meetings —Unless your team wants to gather periodically – you decide!
  • Focus on Prayer—However, if you or your team wants to help the teacher with cards, gifts or other means, that is okay
Please click here to sign up for a team. You will find one place to sign up if you are a teacher desiring support. A second place is for anyone who desires to join a team. You can request to support a particular teacher or we will place you on a team. If your Community Group wants to pray for a teacher, have one person sign up for the team.
Support Durham Public Schools Foundation
We are seeking to provide 500 disadvantaged Durham Public Schools (DPS) children with hotspots and wi-fi service for remote learning thru January of 2021. We can accomplish this with a gift of $25,000. DPS Foundation (DPSF) is a charitable 501(c)(3) launched in September of 2018 whose objectives include an
“Accelerating Digital Equity” campaign. You have the opportunity to give generously to this campaign now. Through September 13, your Elders (via the Session Discretion Fund) and your Mission Formation Team (via one of its budget line-items) are pledging to match all congregational donations to the DPSF on a dollar-for-dollar basis up to $12,500, which promptly accomplishes the $25,000 objective. To give online, click here and then select "DPS Foundation" from the "Select a Fund" drop-down menu. If you prefer to mail a check to the church, make it payable to Church of the Good Shepherd, and write “DPS Foundation” on the memo line.
September Meal at the Durham Rescue Mission
On September 20, CGS is responsible for providing lunch at the Durham Rescue Mission men’s campus. If you would like to help with this month’s meal, please sign up here. Drop off dishes in the main kitchen between 9:30am-10:45am the morning of the meal. Thank you for your support of this ministry.

Global Outreach Spotlight
Meet: Brian & Kim Burchell
In 1999 Brian and Kim moved to Singapore, where they worked with Church Resource Ministries (CRM), encouraging and training churches in missions theology and effective outreach strategy.
In 2004 Brian and Kim transitioned to working with The JESUS Film Project. Brian's experience in Asia led to his oversight of Jesus film production in Southeast Asia, including a film for reaching women, “Magdalena,” in four languages. Currently Brian serves as the Director for Human Resources with the JESUS Film Project.
Pray: Praise for the launch on ten digital social media campaigns in eight SE Asian countries. These campaigns were successful not only in reaching thousands of SE Asians, but also in developing digital maturity among our national staff teams. Over 2 million SE Asians were exposed to the gospel through these May campaigns. Please pray for the ongoing development and future launch of more digital campaigns. In mid September, there will be a training webinar designed to equip safe houses and ministries reaching out to women, especially those hurt by sex trafficking. The Magdalena film will be used as a springboard for heart-level evangelistic conversations. Please pray that this event will bear fruit in the lives of women and multiply throughout Thailand and pray for Kim as she leads in this capacity.
Men's Bible Study Meeting Virtually
Our Friday morning Men's Bible Study is meeting virtually via Zoom for the foreseeable future at 7:00am each Friday. If anyone who is not currently involved with the Men's Bible Study wants more information, they can email Joseph Scanlon or Norman Acker.
