Dear Law Students (JD 25) and Law School Community,
The Boston Lawyers Group (BLG) would like to invite all qualified first year law school students of color to apply for the 2023 1L Diversity Clerkship Program.
BLG member firms and organizations are offering a ten-week clerkship between the private and public sector or a full ten-week clerkship, to historically racially underrepresented first year law students. The number of clerkships are determined by the number of placements made available by BLG members.
Students who submit a completed application will have the opportunity to network with Employers at the BLG's 1L Diversity Clerkship Reception - a Meet and Greet event for all Applicants and Participating Employers on Wednesday, January 25, 2023 hosted by BLG Member, Mintz Levin at One Financial Center, Boston at 6:00 p.m. Applicants are highly encouraged to attend the 1L Diversity Clerkship Reception - SAVE THE DATE! Invitations to the IL Diversity Clerkship Reception will be sent after the application deadline.

1L Diversity Clerkship Program Overview: Selected 1L Diversity Clerks will work full-time at one or two of the BLG's member organizations during the Summer of 2023. Each clerk receives an attorney mentor for the duration of the clerkship. In addition, Clerks will participate in professional and social activities designed to highlight the benefits of practicing law and living in the progressive and dynamic city of Boston.
Applicant Requirements:
The interested applicant must:
- Be a first-year law student at a nationally accredited law school
- Demonstrate a connection to Boston
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States of America

- A brief statement explaining how the applicant will benefit from participating in the clerkship, and what role the applicant will play in the BLG’s mission to advance diversity and inclusion within Boston’s legal community (700 words or less)

PLEASE NOTE: Our members’ criterion focuses on diverse students and gives preference to students with racial and ethnic backgrounds that have been historically underserved and underrepresented in the legal profession. Competitive applicants should have strong ties to Boston. This criterion is in accordance with our mission to create a pipeline of talent that enables our members to identify, recruit, advance and retain diverse historically racially underrepresented attorneys in Boston’s legal community.
