To Pray For, Learn About, & Welcome Afghan Refugees!
(AP Photo/Jose Luis Magana)--Families evacuated from Kabul, Afghanistan, walk through the terminal before boarding a bus after they arrived at Washington Dulles International Airport, in Chantilly, Va., on Friday, Aug. 27, 2021.
As Evacuation Deadlines Loom,
Urge Protections of Afghans & US Forces at Risk
& Prepare to Welcome Refugees!

This week, we continue to mourn the tragic fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, grieve the loss of US soldiers and Afghan residents in last Thursday’s airport attack, &
pray that as many remaining allies and vulnerable Afghans seeking escape may find pathways to safety amid tenuous conditions

As refugees continue in waning hours to be evacuated from Kabul Airport, growing numbers continue to be brought to the US through Washington-Dulles Airport and fully vetted through military bases such as Fort Lee in Virginia, Fort Bliss in Texas, Fort Dix in New Jersey, and Fort McCoy in Wisconsin.

As we multiply our efforts as Disciples to Welcome Refugees,
we invite you this week to:

  • WATCH this Week of Compassion short video call to Give & Respond--& then SIGN UP to indicate your/your church’s interest to assist Afghan refugees. As you do, Disciples RIM will follow up to help link you with best resources in your area, and with other interested Disciples!

  • REGISTER for Monday’s Aug. 30, CWS “Lunch & Learn” event about Afghan Allies & Refugees at 12 noon ET.

  • JOIN VIRTUAL PRAYERS Tuesday, August 30, 4 pm ET with Interfaith Partners for all seeking escape from Afghanistan & affected by violence there. As you Register, you can download resources that include a Disciples prayer.

  • TAKE ACTION to urge safe and ongoing evacuations of remaining US citizens, Afghan allies and vulnerable communities fleeing dangers under the Taliban.

  • SEARCH HERE for a map of local affiliate offices of the nation’s nine approved refugee resettlement organizations nearest to your area, and FIND HERE a state by state directory of resettlement offices. Over the next week, RIM will be compiling resources for each Region, and will make them available soon via googledoc, for regular updating as new resources and events emerge!

Also, don't forget this additional opportunity to join
"Pathways Prayers for Citizenship" TODAY at 12 noon ET

-Continue to Urge PATHWAYS TO CITIZENSHIP-
  • RSVP HERE to join (Spanish and English interpretation available!) our final "August Recess Monday" “Pathways Prayers for Citizenship" TODAY from 12-12:30 pm ET—to pray, hear testimonies from immigrants seeking pathways to citizenship, and learn actions you can take in this crucial time during August Recess!
