Spartan Project SEARCH 2022-2023 Cohort
During the hot and sunny days of late August, Spartan Project SEARCH welcomed interns to campus to begin orientation instruction. These three weeks interns focused on team building, exploring campus, continuing navigation training, and prepared for interviews with participating sites. In addition, interns developed resumes, visited campus landmarks, and explored jobsites. Internship jobsites started mid September and interns quickly learned new skills to help them complete jobs with their new co-workers. In addition to on-the-job training, interns are learning about time management, interpersonal skills needed for employment, and professionalism. Interns will continue to receive instruction throughout the year related to teamwork, workplace safety, email etiquette, disability awareness, disclosure and advocacy, and financial literacy. We want to thank our participating job sites! Without your participation, this program would not be possible. At the conclusion of this rotation, interns will update their resumes, prepare for interviews for next rotation, and complete required workplace safety trainings prior to start on December 5th.

Department Spotlight: MSU Linen Services. Supervisor: Donna Svendsen

"Spartan Linen Services enjoys having Spartan Project Search because they work hard, are eager to learn, add to our Spartan family and our diverse work force. Often our interns for Spartan Project search have a sense of humor, these days we all need a little laughter in our lives. The interns also accept us for who we are and do not judge anyone, they enjoy making new friends- love SPS!"

Spartan Linen Services takes care of the linen and laundry needs, including uniforms for the 4 corners of MSU campus. We are excited to host MSU Spartan Project Search interns again this school year. They help us with processing and staging thousands of napkins and pillowcases each week (especially green and white ones!). They also fold uniforms such as polo’s, chef coats and aprons for all our dining services and Sparty’s for all of campus. Spartan project search interns are part of our Spartan family, and we couldn’t get as much done as we do without them. Caleb is our current intern, and he is busy finding and staging all the special Spartan Helmet Head green napkins for this coming Homecoming- this weekend! Go Green! Go Caleb!

Welcome IPF Shops & MSU Main Library
In September, Spartan Project SEARCH added varied work experiences with the addition of two new departments.
We are very excited to begin our partnership with IPF Shops and the Main Library.
The Infrastructure, Planning, and Facilities (IPF) Shops offers a unique glimpse into the trades jobs that are needed to keep any business and/or the university running. Currently interns are supporting the Machine Shop, Carpentry Shop, Paint Shop, and Roofing crew. Here interns assist with cleaning, using machinery/tools, aiding in the completion of projects, and working with a team.
The MSU Main Library is graciously hosting an intern in the accessibility department and has many different office skills for interns to learn. Currently, interns are learning how to alphabetize, sort, catalog, and shelf books, sort books by needed content for research, and learn about accessibility tools available to students.
