Bridgeton Board of Education
Funder: New Jersey Department of Health
County Health Rankings and Roadmaps, a Robert Woods Johnson Foundation program, named Cumberland County the worst county in New Jersey for Health Factors every year since 2011. The Health Factors rating comprises three categories: Health Behaviors, which encompasses obesity, food environment, and physical inactivity; Clinical Care including those insured and uninsured; and Social & Economic Factors such as children in poverty, single-parent households, and income inequality. As a result, the Bridgeton Food Services Department, led by Warren DeShields, chose to focus its attention on constructing community gardens to combat obesity through education.

Project Innovation: Strengthening Communities Through Innovative Solutions

In 2021, Project Innovation will award nearly $3.5 million to non-profit organizations in 11 NBC and Telemundo owned television station markets that are tackling everyday problems through innovative solutions. The Comcast NBCUniversal Foundation is committed to supporting the interests and needs of our diverse communities.

Healthier Kids for Our Future
Funder: Cigna
Deadline: February 26, 2021
Programs will be funded that foster collaboration between stakeholders aimed at addressing mental health and emotional well-being challenges for children. Partners are encouraged to leverage one or more of the following evidence-based programs: Trauma-Informed Practices (TIPS); Social-Emotional Learning (SEL); or Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). Grants of between $50,000 and $125,000 a year for up to three years will be awarded through the program.

Childhood Traumas: NJ releases first in-nation plan to address them
NJ Spotlight - February 5, 2021
New Jersey officials released the nation’s first community-driven statewide plan to prevent and reduce the damage done by childhood traumas like abuse, neglect and extreme poverty, which can harm the health and welfare of families for generations. The NJ ACES Statewide Action Plan outlines strategies to help government agencies, health, education and social service organizations and members of the public better understand and address adverse childhood experiences, or ACES.

New Jersey will roll out COVID-19 vaccines in a phased approach to all adults who live, work, or are being educated in the State. Within six months, New Jersey aims to vaccinate 70 percent of the adult population.

WSCC Team Training Modules are ready-made professional development resources for use by states, districts or local schools to build, strengthen and sustain school teams implementing the WSCC model.
