UFTI Researchers Create Tool to Assess Intention to Use, and Acceptance of Automated Vehicles
Fully Automated vehicles (FAVs) have the potential to benefit society by improving road safety, supporting independence for people with disabilities, and reducing congestion and carbon emissions. Measuring people’s perceptions about accepting and adopting FAVs is an important precursor to deploying fleets of FAVs. Justin Mason, Ph.D., an affiliated researcher of the UFTI, will present a tool developed to gauge intention to use and acceptance of FAVs at the AUVSI XPONENTIAL on April 26, 2022. The presentation is titled "Automated Vehicle User Perception Survey: A Brief Tool to Assess Intention to Use and Acceptance of FAVs". At AUVSI XPONENTIAL, technologists, users, policy makers, and strategists from more than 20 industries and 100 companies convene during the largest, most comprehensive trade show for autonomous systems.

Dr. Mason is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Occupational Therapy in the College of Public Health and Health Professions. He is the Director of the Mobility, Activity, and Participation (MAP) Lab with projects investigating innovative solutions to optimize driving and community mobility for older adults and special populations.

Siddhartha Gulhare Named a 2022 Lifesavers Traffic Safety Scholar
Siddhartha Gulhare is a Ph.D. candidate supervised by Dr. Siva Srinivasan in the UF Department of Civil & Coastal Engineering. Gulhare was one of 38 students named as a 2022 Lifesavers Traffic Safety Scholar. After a competitive application process the recipients were awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help defray the cost to attend the conference held in Chicago on March 12-15, 2022.

"It was a great experience to listen to the various challenges faced by traffic safety professionals and first responders," said Gulhare. The Lifesavers Conference showcases the latest research, evidence-based strategies, proven countermeasures, and promising new approaches for addressing the nation’s most pressing traffic safety problems.

STRIDE Webinar
Using Big Data to Spot Incident-Induced Congestion and Anticipate Demand-Induced Congestion

Wednesday, April 13, 2022, 12:00 – 1:00 PM ET

In this webinar, we will examine Bluetooth, video, and connected vehicle data to determine whether the occurrence of incident-induced congestion (IIC) and the onset of demand-induced congestion (DIC) can be identified. We explore the use of machine learning, cluster analysis, and ex-post-facto data analysis to develop logic by which statistical trends in the distributions of travel rates (or speeds) can be correlated with these events, minimizing the likelihoods of false positives and negatives.
