From the Desk of the Diocesan Secretary
Dear all,

There's a lot going on at the moment, isn’t there. I often think this time of year should be quieter, and yet it rarely is.

Life in the diocese is following a similar pattern, with a wide range of things going on. We have welcomed a new Dean, announced a new Bishop, and seen the ordination this weekend of 23 deacons, not to forget a number of our curates being priested. The rest of July looks to continue at pace and there are a range of things below which may be of help to you or those in your church. Personally, my focus has been on understanding how national church money is to be distributed and taking forward work in relation to our future sustainability. A couple of weeks ago Jude and I spoke with Diocesan Synod about the work we have been undertaking in relation to Church Support and Deployment. This is an important area of work. We want to give every church the chance of moving forward in mission, ministry and sustainability in a way that is intentional, prayerful and possible. Over the coming months we will be talking more about the support on offer as we move forward with this work. For now, please do take a few minutes to scan the information below and pick up anything which is relevant to you.

I hope as well that you find some time to rest over the coming month.

Jonathan
New from Church House
“Greenhouse” New Congregation Support Conversation
Monday July 18, 7.30 pm

If you are involved in running any kind of Fresh Expression of Church / New Worshipping Congregation or Mission Project (or want to start one) in the Ripon Episcopal Area, you are invited to a conversation about how its new Greenhouse community can help you. Tell the Greenhouse team and Jude Smith, Director of Church Revitalisation your story and your next challenge, and see if this support structure will help you plant, grow or repair your young or emerging work.

Email karin.shaw@leeds.anglican.org for the Zoom link.

Resources and supporting parishes
It’s been a busy few weeks and it has been great to meet so many people from parishes in our recent workshops and training gatherings. Sessions start again in September, with details below, however we would like to highlight a couple of other opportunities. We’d like to hear from any parishes interested in a virtual conversation about resources for Intergenerational Eucharistic Worship, please contact childrenyouth@leeds.anglican.org to register your interest. We also have our first Godly Play Taster Session this year on Tuesday, October 11; this is in-person and is being hosted by St Mary’s South Elmsall.
Age-specific opportunities
We are starting the autumn term with some age specific sessions, beginning with Starting up Children’s Sunday groups on Tuesday, September 20, Starting up Youth Work on Wednesday, September 28, and a Toddler Group Teams Gathering on Wednesday, October 19.
Stay connected
If you would like to receive the Children, Young People and Family Team newsletter, please subscribe to the Digital Learning Platform at https://learning.leeds.anglican.org/register/ and be sure to tick the ‘Children & Youth’ and ‘Sign me up’ boxes! In addition we host a Facebook group for anyone involved in children, young people and family ministry where people share details of events, resources, activities and training and also ask questions, debate ideas and learn together.
Faculty jurisdiction rules
As a part of the Church of England's commitment to reach Carbon Net Zero by 2030, the faculty jurisdiction rules have been amended to help churches meet their carbon reduction targets. The new rules, which take effect from Friday, July 1, 2022, require churches to have due regard to the Church Buildings Council's advice on Carbon Net Zero. To prepare parishes for these changes, the Diocese has produced a summary document of the rule amendments for the benefit of churchwardens and PCCs. This document can be downloaded here

Additionally, the Church Buildings team are also hosting a second training session on the faculty jurisdiction rule changes on Zoom between 19:00 – 20:00 on Thursday, July 21, 2022. Please contact Rob Andrews (rob.andrews@leeds.anglican.org) to register your interest.

Training may be undertaken without it necessarily leading to one of the formal categories of engagement.

Who in your parish could benefit from this training? Saving Creation Bronze is available online now here. The Silver and Gold courses will be starting in September. Details can be found here.

Digital Giving Project begins in our diocese today
Digital giving is being expanded across the diocese this summer, thanks to new free contactless giving devices being made available to parishes from today through the Digital Giving Rollout project.

70 contactless devices will be given to churches all across the diocese, as part of a nation-wide roll out supported by the Church of England’s National Giving Team.

In our diocese the project begins today, Monday, July 4, and the application process for churches is now open.

A number of different types of devices are available to suit a range of different contexts, including some that do not require an internet connection to work.

Parishes with successful applications will be supported with training on how to set up their device, as well as its ongoing management.

The devices will be free, but some may incur a financial cost due to fees, depending on what device a church receives.

The application window closes on Thursday, August 11.

The online application form and accompanying Project Pack can be accessed by visiting our project landing page on the Parish Buying website here

You may also watch a recording of the Digital Giving Pre-Launch Information Session here.

For queries regarding the Digital Giving Rollout project and the application process please contact Janet Edmond, Stewardship Officer on 0113 353 0214  or email janet.edmond@leeds.anglican.org.
