Letter from our President
President’s message to Jefferson Park:
A great neighborhood must have a strong and active board! Jefferson Park is a wonderful place, thanks to the efforts of its volunteers and board. The ongoing TEP Transmission Line Project is a prime example in which the board and neighbors' involvement is critical to the well-being of residents and preservation of our neighborhood.
In the past, the JP board has initiated and/or managed many important projects, which enhance life and protect the neighborhood. Here are a few examples:
Almost a decade ago, volunteers had a vision for an Historic District designation which would protect the heritage of Jefferson Park. Lots of research time and $38,000 in donations made JP the 31st Historic District in Tucson.
Jefferson Park is one of only two "Neighborhood Preservation Zones", NPZ's, in Tucson, due to the efforts of many volunteers.
A working partnership with Banner brought the memorial park and the green basin to the neighborhood on Lester.
A white paper in 2016, and the work of the Grant Road Coalition and our partnership with government entities made possible a linear park now becoming a reality. We maintained R-1 zoning for the "Central Segments."
2019 -SW gas was going to place a station by our residential housing. Lots of volunteer work,
and with the cooperation of SW Gas and Banner it was moved to a less intrusive location.
With hours of volunteer time to plan and design, and through contributions from neighbors, in 2019, we erected two gateway entrance signs along the Campbell access road.
Six area reps and their helpers are available to residents.
Continued efforts keep Jefferson Park residents informed through the JP websites, Facebooks, E-news, door hangers, our listserv and the efforts of our volunteer Area Representatives.
It is time to begin to establish the JPNA board for 2021. After having reached out to some of our neighbors, our Nominating Committee has created a slate for the coming year, which will be voted upon at the January meeting - by Zoom or in person.
We need your help! There remains one Member-at-Large position, and lots of opportunities for committee work. If you would like to be considered for the MAL position or want to discuss which committee might be for you, please contact Laurel-Heather Milden, Nomination Committee chair: trdswmm@cox.net.
Jefferson Park has a three-year term limit for officers, and we feel it is imperative to continually grow our base, and to include and rejuvenate everyone! We know that you are busy, especially this year, but if you have time to lend a hand let us know. Thank you for your interest and support!
Colleen Nichols, President, Jefferson Park Association

Continue to make your concerns known

Jeff Park's CWG Representatives suggested strategy: Continue to flood the TEP website, tep.com/kino-to-demoss-petrie with our concerns. Await the November announcement of final three line siting routes which will be sent to the ACC.

Due to Covid-19, our neighborhood school, The International School, will change the way they usually celebrate Halloween. This year, they are hosting a Car Parade with a car costume and fence decorating contest, and drive-up “Trick or Treat.”
The parade is scheduled to begin at Seneca and Martin (see map), and go clockwise around 3 sides of the school; there will be 6 candy stops with a volunteer at each stop giving out candy- no need to get out of your car.
The school has also planned a car-decorating contest for the cars driving through the parade. The ISTPA will judge that contest. They will print pictures of all the cars and the photo will be handed to the car when exiting the parade.
If you have questions, you may contact Melissa Janezic, PTA President and JP resident at: parents@istucson.org
