MONDAY MEMO
McKenna led the preschool and kindergarten students in a yoga session inspired by planting seeds and watching them sprout.

We are looking forward to a sunny week of learning outside and celebrating the season with our Festival of Poetry and Prose on Friday.

NOTES
SPIRIT WEEK
It's Riverside Spirit Week! April 11-15. The Student Council encourages everyone, students and teachers, to participate in these fun days! These things can help us feel connected to each other and have fun! If you have any questions feel free to talk to President Camryn me at school!

  • Monday: Pajama Day
  • Tuesday: Character Day- students can dress up as any character from a book, movie, tv show, or something else
  • Wednesday: Wacky Day - dress as wacky as possible, crazy outfits and hats
  • Thursday: Theme Day - each class/grade will work together to choose a theme and each member can dress up as part of this theme
  • Friday: Riverside Day - wear blue and green (Riverside colors) and official Riverside apparel.
STANDARDIZED TESTING
6-8th grade students will continue computer-based standardized testing this week. 3-8th graders will conduct theirs after spring vacation. Please help students to understand that this should not be stressful, and will not have direct results that affect them. It is simply one tool Riverside uses to understand what students know and can do, and the results can help us to be better teachers and to target needs and goals for some individual students. Encouraging them to focus and to do their best will help us get the most accurate results.
  • 6th grade: Tuesday AM Math, Wednesday AM Extra Time, Thursday PM Math
  • 7th grade: Monday AM Math, Wednesday AM Extra Time, Wednesday PM Math
  • 8th grade: Tuesday AM Math, Wednesday AM Extra Time, Thursday AM Math
FESTIVAL OF POETRY AND PROSE
This Friday, April 15 will be our K-8 Festival of Poetry and Prose with an early dismissal at 12:30 for PK-8 for Spring Vacation. K-8th graders will engage in creative writing activities in mixed age groups, with 8th graders facilitating. The morning will conclude with time to listen to some of each other's crafted words and phrases.

The preschool After School and K-8 Extended Day Program will run from dismissal until 4:15 (PreK) and 5:00 (K-8). Please email Heather or Sean if your child(ren) will attend and let us know when you plan to pick up so that they can plan for the long afternoon accordingly.
SWIMMING
There will be no swimming for K-2nd graders this week because of the early dismissal on Friday afternoon at 12:30 for Spring Vacation.
LATIN CLUB SUCCESS
On Sunday a group of nine students, five parents, and two Latin teachers participateD in the New Hampshire Junior Classical League conventions. The three concepts the event focused on were philia (friendship), agon (competition), and paideia (learning). Riverside students took advantage of all three by participating in candidate elections, competing in written tests, certamen (classical trivia), chariot races, Roman coin workshops, and even gladiatorial combat. The students’ preparation certainly paid off: their skit won first place, 8th grader Sam Keith won 1st place in the mythology test, 6th grader Gabe Adams won the overall gladiatorial competition, and the certamen team came in second place.
HELP NEEDED
Spring is in the air and it is time to get the tents up so we can get the kids back outside as much as possible. Many hands make this task lighter work. Please enter your name and availability in this document and Roy will reach out about when that is happening.
SUPER RAFFLE
Our 2nd annual Super Raffle event is planned for May 14 in the Cedars at Riverside! Each family has been given tickets to sell, along with a letter to parents that explains the event in detail. Please return all 3 ticket stubs, or complete unsold tickets, to the office by Tuesday, April 26.
RIVERSIDE AGAINST CANCER
In honor of our beloved art teacher and all cancer fighters, survivors, and caregivers, students at the Riverside School are hosting a walkathon to benefit the American Cancer Society. We’ve all been impacted by this monstrous disease and through this event, we wish to offer support, inspiration and hope. We want to bring the whole Riverside community together with one common goal, to join in the fight for a cure. Please mark your calendars and take the afternoon of Friday, May 13th off from work to join us at The Riverside School. Our focus is on the health benefits of physical activity, sun safety, the dangers of tobacco use, and the importance of making healthy nutritional choices. Stay tuned for event specifics, fundraising information and ways to get involved. Contact Caroline Thompson with any questions.
RAPID PCR TESTS AVAILABLE
We have a limited number of Lucira rapid PCR tests on hand. If you were exposed and would like a high-quality test, please let Roy or the office know and we will get one to you at pick up or drop off. You may also get one of these per household member through the state, through the same site that is used for regular PCR testing.
