Dear IS Families,
It was wonderful welcoming our students to the 2021-2022 school year last week! The school was filled with excitement, energy, and enthusiasm for learning! We were so proud to watch our students, new and returning, transition successfully into the new school year!
The Intermediate School staff is committed to supporting your child’s academic, social, and emotional growth throughout the year. It is our goal to have clear and open communication with families. Please watch your email throughout the year for messages from your child’s teachers and the school.
Additionally, the Monday Memo is our main source of communication with families for information, updates, and upcoming events. Also, we do occasionally use “backpack mail” for some items, such as school picture information. We also encourage you to reach out to your child’s teacher(s), the school counselor, the nurse, or the administrative team with any questions or support your child may need.
The Head School Nurse Michelle Opferman and her team have prepared this important message for families. Please take a moment to read it, and feel free to contact her with any questions.
A few reminders to keep our students in school:
- Masks are required, per federal mandate, on all public transportation, including school buses and vans. All students and staff are required to wear a mask while traveling in school transportation vehicles. Please help us by reminding your child to mask up for the bus and reinforce proper mask-wearing.

Please review the District’s COVID-19 updates from August 27, 2021 by clicking here.
In the event of school closure due to inclement weather, COVID-19, or other unforeseen circumstances, the District will shift to remote learning via Google Classroom (K-8) and Schoology (9-12), following these guidelines:
- On remote learning days, students must submit their attendance in Infinite Campus between 6:30 am and 12:00 pm or they will be marked absent.
- Students, teachers, and paraprofessionals should follow their schedules synchronously, checking in to each class at the appropriate times, and then working independently on school work as assigned by each teacher.
- If there is a 2-hour delay, schools will operate on a typical in-person 2-hour delay schedule.
- If a 2-hour delay is called and later becomes a full-day closure, students should complete assignments asynchronously to allow teachers ample time to safely travel to school.
Parents, please remember that students younger than high school age must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of all District events and athletic competitions. This includes Friday night football games.
We look forward to a school year filled with growth and great memories for our students! We greatly appreciate your support and assistance in your child’s educational journey!
