FY 2022-26 DRAFT Transportation Improvement Program
Now Available for Public Review
The SCTPO is currently soliciting public comments on its FY 2022-26 DRAFT Transportation Improvement Program (TIP). The TIP is a staged program encompassing a five-year period consisting of all regionally significant transportation improvements to all modes of travel in Brevard County.

The TIP identifies projects for maintaining and improving the transportation system funded by federal and state sources. The TIP is based on and reflects the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Work Program for Brevard County. You can review the DRAFT FY 2022-2026 TIP and leave public responses in the comment portal or review the TIP Fact Sheet to learn more.
SCTPO Posts 2021 DRAFT Project Priorities, Open for Public Comment
The SCTPO recently developed the 2021 DRAFT List of Project Priorities (LOPP). SCTPO staff worked with members of the Transportation Subcommittee to develop a draft list that builds on the list from the previous year. The LOPP contains a list of unfunded highway, technology, and bicycle and pedestrian projects.

The 2021 DRAFT List of Project Priorities has been posted to the website and can be viewed here. The list will next be presented for adoption by the SCTPO Governing Board on July 8, 2021.
Space Coast Transit Offers Contactless Mobile Ticketing
Space Coast Area Transit now offers instant contactless mobile ticketing powered by Token Transit. Simply show the bus operator the activated ticket displayed on the smartphone instead of sticking cash into the farebox or having a bus pass punched by the driver.

The app can send a 1-Ride, 10-Ride, or 30-Day bus pass directly and instantly to a smartphone. Payment with a credit, debit or prepaid card is required. Both the 321Transit and Token Transit apps are free and available in the Apple and Google Play stores. Go to 321transit.com/token-transit to review additional information and download the app.

Technical & Citizens Advisory Committee Meeting: July 7, 9:30 AM
The SCTPO is now resuming joint committee meetings and will hold its Technical and Citizens Advisory Committee on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, from 9:30-11:30 AM at the Center for Collaboration, located at 1100 Rockledge Blvd. Rockledge, FL 32955. Public citizens may Register Here.

The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) reviews the work progress and evaluates the technical acceptability of plans and studies. Members make recommendations to the SCTPO Governing Board, with supporting technical information that assists them with policy-making decisions. The Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) provides citizens' views and recommendations on projects, plans, and programs to the Board.

Volunteers Needed! Stop On Red Pop-Up Event, 8/3/21
On August 3, 2021, SCTPO staff will be partnering with the National Coalition for Safer Roads and Melbourne Police Department to host a pop-up event to raise awareness about #StopOnRedWeek. Volunteers will be taking it to the streets to remind motorists and cyclists to stop on red. Interested in volunteering? Email kim.smith@brevardfl.gov to participate.

Allegiant Announces New Nonstop Service from
Melbourne Orlando International Airport to Three New Destinations
Allegiant (NASDAQ: ALGT) today announces nonstop service from Melbourne Orlando International Airport (MLB) to three new destinations: Pittsburgh, Pa.; Nashville, Tenn., and Concord, N.C. beginning in November. To celebrate the new launch date, the company is offering one-way fares on the new routes as low as $39.*

  2. Nashville, Tennessee via Nashville International Airport (BNA) – beginning Nov. 18, 2021, with fares as low as $39.*
  3. Concord, North Carolina via Concord-Padgett Airport (USA) – beginning Nov. 18, 2021, with fares as low as $39.*

Port Canaveral Leads Charge to "Let's Get Cruising"
Port Canaveral is leading the way to restart the cruise industry by vaccinating thousands of cruise and cargo ship crews, outpacing all other ports. You may have noticed many more cruise ships coming in and out of the Port lately, such as Royal Caribbean International's Odyssey of the Seas, where almost 1,400 vaccinations were administered in ONE DAY! Port Canaveral has vaccinated almost 4,000 crew members to date, with vessels booked for vaccinations through July.
Brightline to Build Key Connector Bridge Over I-95 in Brevard
Brightline will complete a key connection in expanding high-speed rail in the state of Florida when installation begins on a rail bridge over Interstate 95 in Brevard County. The bridge, spanning 573 feet, and located along the corridor between Cocoa and Orlando International Airport will mark the first time Brightline constructs a bridge over an interstate.
 
Brightline will use a combination of four different cranes, ranging in size from 275 to 800-ton lifting capacity, to lift the 24 steel beams. The heaviest of the beams weigh in at 146,000 lbs., equivalent to two fully loaded tractor-trailers. The bridge will be constructed in four spans requiring overnight detours of SR 528 and I-95 ramps and the southbound and northbound lanes of I-95. Announces 2021 Community Mobility Design Challenge
The National Center for Mobility Management (NCMM) announces an opportunity to apply for Community Mobility Design Challenge 2021 grants. Nonprofit and government agencies that are federal funding recipients or sub-recipients may apply for grants of up to $25,000 to create innovative mobility solutions for community members who face transportation barriers in advancing their personal well-being. FHWA Publishes America's Byways 2021 Designations Booklet
Earlier this year, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) published America's Byways 2021 Designations Booklet, which celebrates the reemergence of the National Scenic Byways Program, a grassroots, collaborative effort that recognizes selected roads throughout the United States of America for their outstanding and unique historic, cultural, natural, archaeological, recreational, and scenic intrinsic qualities. There are now  184 America's Byways® in 48 states.

SCTPO's Vision Zero Heroes Program Recognizes City of Cocoa
On June 15, the SCTPO recognized the local efforts of the City of Cocoa in working towards Vision Zero. Speakers included SCTPO Executive Director, Georganna Gillette, National Coalition for Safer Roads President and Alert Today Florida Ambassador, Melissa Wandall, and SCTPO Vision Zero Project Manager, Kim Smith. Taking the time to commend positive strides in the right direction is essential to the mission of Vision Zero. Shifting our culture around traffic safety takes a village.

We also want to thank council members Lorraine Koss, Cocoa City Council District 4, and Councilman Lavander Hearn, Cocoa City Council District 2 for taking the time to speak about the city's efforts and paying tribute to a life that was lost a year ago today, due to a preventable crash.
Local School Names SCTPO as a Partner in Education of the Year
#ICYMI Andersen Elementary named the SCTPO as one of its 2020-2021 Partners in Education of the Year! This year, Education & Safety Coordinator, Kim Smith, has worked with the school to provide helmets and bike/ped safety materials to the SRO. Partnering with our schools to create a safer transportation system is vital to our mission.
Space Coast Area Transit Buses Showcase Traffic Safety Messages
Spotted! Have you seen the new Space Coast Area Transit bus panels that are showcasing FDOT Central Florida Alert Today Florida bicycle, pedestrian, and motorist safety messages? These amazing visuals are currently featured on 15 buses. The road to zero is only possible through partnership. #321VisionZero
SCTPO Holds Community Training for Law Enforcement Officers
In May, SCTPO Education & Safety Coordinator, Kim Smith, partnered with Alert Today Florida to host a Community Training for law enforcement officers, who learned how to properly fit bicycle helmets, safety tips, defensive walking, and bicycling skills, and how to conduct a bicycle rodeo.

The SCTPO values our partnerships with local law enforcement agencies. Having community safety advocates in our neighborhoods is essential.
SCTPO Staff Tour FDOT District 5 TMC, Ride Sunrail
The SCTPO recently held its Annual Staff Retreat, where staff members went on a field trip to Sanford to tour the FDOT Central Florida Transportation Management Center. Staff members took note of all the innovative and integrative design techniques as inspiration for our future TMC in Brevard County, which is currently our #3 project priority. Next stop, staff rode SunRail into Winter Park, where they enjoyed lunch and a stroll down the cobblestone streets.

Our annual retreat is essential to the strategic and professional development of our staff. What a way to spend the day, using three different modes of transportation!
