Ocean Shores Looking at Adding a Crosswalk to Point Brown
As requested by the Ocean Shores City Council, the City requested SCJ Alliance to explore options to construct marked pedestrian crossings along Point Brown Avenue between Shoal Street and the Chance a La Mer roundabout.
Point Brown is the main entrance into Ocean Shores and has high pedestrian traffic. Without designated crosswalks, people often cross the street at locations closest to their designation resulting in unsafe crossings that negatively impact traffic flow. The City is looking to fund at least one pedestrian crossing along Point Brown Avenue to increase safety for crossing pedestrians and reduce conflicts with vehicles.
The City has contacted businesses near the four proposed options and posted an online survey for additional opportunities for feedback. The current favored option from the businesses contacted is Option 2, crossing from Playtime Family Fun to the Bakery Cafe. The preliminary cost of the project is $226,294.
The next step is to summarize feedback, provide a recommendation, and bring it forward to the City Council. (Above photo rendering of a potential crosswalk for Point Brown Ave.)
