Ocean Shores Looking at Adding a Crosswalk to Point Brown

As requested by the Ocean Shores City Council, the City requested SCJ Alliance to explore options to construct marked pedestrian crossings along Point Brown Avenue between Shoal Street and the Chance a La Mer roundabout.

Point Brown is the main entrance into Ocean Shores and has high pedestrian traffic. Without designated crosswalks, people often cross the street at locations closest to their designation resulting in unsafe crossings that negatively impact traffic flow. The City is looking to fund at least one pedestrian crossing along Point Brown Avenue to increase safety for crossing pedestrians and reduce conflicts with vehicles.

The City has contacted businesses near the four proposed options and posted an online survey for additional opportunities for feedback. The current favored option from the businesses contacted is Option 2, crossing from Playtime Family Fun to the Bakery Cafe. The preliminary cost of the project is $226,294.

The next step is to summarize feedback, provide a recommendation, and bring it forward to the City Council. (Above photo rendering of a potential crosswalk for Point Brown Ave.)

Owned and operated by June Bongirno since Labor Day 2018, Double Barrel BBQ serves up some of the best food in Ocean Shores! June offers burgers, BBQ smoked chicken, brisket, ribs, and pulled pork. All side dishes are made from scratch.

Not only does June enjoy serving the best BBQ, but she is also a community volunteer and fundraiser for youth’s needs. She recently held a two-show live concert at the Ocean Shores Convention Center where she provided a taco meal. Proceeds benefitted the North Beach High School Elk’s Scholarship and VFW.

From mid-June through the summer, Double Barrel BBQ will park their food truck in Seabrook, so be sure to check them out there. To make sure they have enough tasty meat on hand, the PIG SMOKER will be on location that's capable of smoking 25 3-foot-long briskets!

Later this summer is June's SUPERHERO Music Fest on July 30th, 31st, and August 1st. Whisky River - a Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute band will be present as well as vendors, kids zone, games, bounce houses, activities, and much more!  And Superheroes: Batman, Wonder Woman, Thor, Iron Man and others will be there to greet your kids!

Proceeds from this event will go to the Grays Harbor Youth Athletics and to the Hombres Motorcycle club who provide Toys for Tots at Christmas.

Thank you, June, for your investment into the community of Ocean Shores!
