MISSIONS CONFERENCE 2023: FEBRUARY 8-12

A Vision for Missions. A Heart for Prayer.

It’s the time of year when our missionary partners come to visit and engage with us face-to-face. It’s a time for hearing about all the amazing stories that God is working in and through our missionary partners around the world. And guess what? We have the opportunity to not only be encouraged by their stories, but to be part of the story by encouraging these laborers and entering into fellowship with them. We would encourage you to not only take advantage of the many opportunities to hear these stories (schedule listed below), but to connect with our missionary partners on a personal level.

Here are the missionaries we have coming to the Missions Conference this year:

Keith and Lois Betsch - Wycliffe

Chris and Mary Granberry - Sacred Road Ministries - Yakama Washington

Pamela Phipps - Grace House

Justin and Alanna Huston - Serge Ireland

Gregg and Julie Nicholson - UWN Thailand

Christina Thomas - Christian Medical Ministry of Alabama

Doni Mehmeti - A Jesus Mission - Kosovo

Missions conference schedule:

Wednesday & Thursday (Feb. 8 & 9) - community groups hosting missionaries

Friday night (Feb. 10) - supper & meeting (5:30 PM)

Saturday morning (Feb. 11) - prayer breakfast (8:30 AM)

Saturday night (Feb. 11) - supper & missionary panel (5:30 PM)

Sunday morning (Feb. 12) - services (8:30 & 11:00 AM), Church-wide lunch in Fellowship Hall (12:15 PM)

And he said to them, “Go into all the world and proclaim the Gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:15 esv)

HANDYMAN SERVICE TEAM

The Diaconate of AVPC has created a new mercy ministry opportunity called the Handyman Service Team. We seek to focus God’s love and Christ’s compassion upon the church body in a tangible way. This team is comprised of volunteers within our church body who are willing and able to use their spiritual gifts, talents, skills, and time, to assist members who are unable to complete small tasks around their homes. We invite both men and women, youth and adults to volunteer for this Team and to serve as you can and as you feel you are called.

To sign up for this service opportunity, CLICK HERE TO BE TAKEN TO THE FORM:

Friday's study is at 1:00 PM at the home of Judy Bates. Study books are available in the Parlor for a cost of $7.00. Contact Amy MacCaughelty with questions, 205.706.6016.

OUR CONDOLENCES

We extend our sincere condolences to former AVPC members Corey and Angel Williams. Angel’s son, Jaylen Clark, was shot and killed on January 29. Jaylen was 17 and a senior at Parker High School. Several families and youth have kept in touch with Jaylen and his family. There will be a visitation at W.E. Lusain Funeral Home at 9:00 am on Monday February 6, and a graveside service at 11:00 am at New Grace Hill cemetery. Please pray especially for Jaylen’s family, the accused shooter, and our youth as several of them knew Jaylen well. The Mercy Team is planning to assist the family with funeral costs. Contributions can be made to the Diaconal Ministries Designated Fund.

FAMILY SERVES INITIATIVE

It is our practice at AVPC to ask all our members to help out from time to time with some light volunteer work to serve the church in one of four areas. We call this our “AVPC Family Serves” initiative. If you have not taken advantage of the opportunity to serve yet, click HERE to be taken to our website and find out more details about our Family Serves initiative. Then complete the simple form to join others in serving your church family or to opt out of this. All those not opting out (no reason need be given for opting out) will be asked to serve from time to time. Questions? Contact the church office 205.967.0680 or email christine@avpc.org
