Welcome Back and First Week
Our first week back on our new campus went by fast. It was wonderful to have students on campus and in our classrooms. Each day students learned the building a little more and navigating the hallways got a little easier.
Drop Off Zone and Student Entrances As Well As Dismissal Information
With our new building comes a few new traffic procedures for everyone to learn! This week navigating drop-off and pick-up was learning for us all. Each day as students arrived and left the process got a little better.

Please note on the image above that the new drop-off & pick-up zone on Maple Street as you approach Ferris Street has been removed. We quickly learned that for multiple reasons, the designated area was not a productive use of that space. We will continue to work on further solutions for that area as well as our overall traffic challenges. Pull-in parking remains available along Ferris Street.

The dedicated bus lane is one way off Maple and heading North and then East behind the campus. There is not an allowable entrance off of S. Rice Avenue.

If parking on any city street, please be mindful of any posted City of Bellaire parking signs.

We will utilize all the student entrances plus a few more exterior doors at dismissal. HISD bus riders will quickly board their busses while other students should be picked up on Maple, Ferris, S Rice, or another predetermined location. Students should stay on sidewalks at all times.

The traffic usually takes about 20 minutes to clear out so scheduling a delayed pickup may be a smart strategy.
COVID 19 Reporting
Please allow us to share some updates related to COVID reporting that we are utilizing at this time. This year, the process has been updated, and the most current information can be found outlined in the Houston ISD’s “Ready, Set, Go!” plan linked here. Once notified, our nurse investigates and begins the contact tracing process on our campus, and documents all exposed, presumed and confirmed COVID 19 cases. Out of an abundance of caution, we will inform parents each day that we have reports of a COVID 19 case. Since we cannot account for every second that a student spends coming to school, attending and visiting classrooms on campus, and after school, we believe it is important that we are all reminded to maintain safety practices, monitor personal health symptoms, and exercise good judgment. If we determine that your son/daughter came into direct contact with someone on campus that was presumed positive or confirmed positive, then our nurse will make contact directly with you. If you would like information regarding active COVID cases, you may access that information on the HISD COVID Dashboard site here.

Additionally, our quarantining protocols have been updated to distinguish between vaccinated and unvaccinated persons. If your student is vaccinated, we encourage you to upload a copy of their vaccination record via our COVID Vaccination Form. We also encourage that if your student is tested, that the test results are uploaded using our COVID Test Results Form. Please refrain from bringing the results to campus, as visitors to our campus remain limited at this time. Below is the protocol regarding quarantine:

Unvaccinated Individuals :
Exposed to a Confirmed Positive or Presumed COVID-19 Case (Close Contact): Quarantine for 10 days after the last exposure date to the Confirmed COVID-19 Positive or Presumed COVID-19 Case. Return to campus on day 11.

Vaccinated Individuals :
Fully vaccinated individuals are those who have received one dose of Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine or the second dose of Pfizer/Moderna COVID-19 vaccine at least 14 days before exposure to a presumed or confirmed COVID-19 case. Fully vaccinated individuals exposed to a presumed or confirmed positive case, do not need to quarantine if not having any symptoms. Fully vaccinated individuals should test 3 – 5 days after exposure, even if not having any symptoms, and wear a mask/face covering when indoors in public for either 14 days from exposure or until a negative COVID-19 test result is obtained (within 3 – 5 days from exposure). Proof of COVID-19 immunization needs to be provided to determine immunity.

If your student is required to quarantine, they are eligible for Temporary Online Learning (TOL) for a maximum of 10 days (limited to two quarantines for the year). The website to sign up for TOL is linked here: HISD @ HOME. While this platform is not taught by Bellaire faculty, our teachers will work with your son/daughter to catch up on missed assignments upon their return.

Course Change Requests
Course Change Requests are made online. Counselors are processing a large number of requests at this time. Beginning next week requests should be processed in approximately 48 hours. Please do not submit your request multiple times as that slows down the process.

Reasons a schedule change form should be completed:
  • A class is missing or repeated
  • A class you took in summer school or another semester is on your schedule.
  • A required core class (English, Math, Science or Social Studies) is missing.
  • The class level is not correct, for example, you wanted to be in an AP class and you are in an Academic level class.
Reasons you should not submit a schedule change:
  • Requesting a different teacher
  • Requesting your classes be in a different order.
  • You want to be in a class with a friend

Ms. McLendon earns 50 Year Pin
In May 2021, Lisa McLendon received the award for 50 years of dedicated service to HISD with an accompanying pin containing diamonds. During the end of year luncheon in the cafeteria at the former building, Principal Michael McDonough conducted the ceremony. McLendon's close friends came in for the event and others are here at Bellaire, as pictured here. McLendon said, "It is an honor and a joy to continue teaching here. I grew up here, my kids grew up here. I turned 21 here and my kids were born here. They crawled around on the floors at Bellaire High School and both attended high school here." McLendon started the Russian program in the '60s and has taken trips to Russia with students and the students have become leaders, not just in the US, but in the world. McLendon says, "She is proud of all of her former students and current students. They have and will continue to contribute to our community, our country, and our world."
