Quarantine Protocols
In accordance with feedback from many Hotchkiss families as well as the rapid spread of the virus in many states, today we are announcing a new model for student quarantine.
-
All students are asked to self-quarantine
at home for two weeks before the beginning of School. Arrival dates for students will be staggered over four days, from August 31 - September 3.
Therefore, students should begin their quarantine at home during the week of August 17.*
-
As previously communicated, when students arrive on campus on their scheduled drop-off date, they must provide documentation of a negative COVID-19 test result that is no more than seven days old.
-
Once students arrive at Hotchkiss, they will begin two weeks of quarantine
on-campus
. This will run concurrently with the start of the school year. Day students will quarantine at home during this period. Students will participate in Opening Days activities and start classes from their rooms.
This new model means that regardless of your point of origin,
students do not need to quarantine away from home before coming to Hotchkiss
. (*Note the exception for students coming from China or Brazil.)
More information on how on-campus quarantine will be conducted is available in the
FAQs
.
*Non-U.S. citizens from Brazil and China are still required to spend 14 days outside of their country before they will be allowed to enter the U.S. However, because students can quarantine on campus upon arrival in Connecticut, affected families can begin their travels in mid-August rather than early August.
Interscholastic Athletics
The Founders League is the athletic conference in which we compete. Athletic Directors and Heads of the Founders League schools have been thoughtfully deliberating the question of whether or not to go forward with the fall interscholastic sports season.
On July 15, with great regret and with health and safety of all of the school communities in the forefront of its thinking, the Founders League made the unanimous decision to cancel the fall interscholastic athletic season.
We are now focused on providing as robust an on-campus athletic and outdoor program as possible. Elite athletes will continue to work with their coaches to develop and hone sport-specific skills. In parallel, all students will have opportunities to engage in sports and stay active, making the best possible use of our beautiful campus, woods, and outstanding facilities.
