New COVID-19 Protocols Effective Immediately
The value of preserving our individual and our community’s health is of the utmost importance in Jewish ethics and Jewish law. Decisions made to protect human life and well-being – known in Hebrew as pikuach nefesh – are so weighty that they supersede nearly every other religious statute.
Be assured that TBC's Reopening Task Force and leadership team take our responsibility to protect our community very seriously. We have been continuing to evaluate CDC and State guidelines. Although the rate of COVID infections in CT remains low, there has been an uptick in COVID-19 cases resulting from the Delta variant, which is highly contagious - even among those who have been fully vaccinated. Therefore, we have opted to err on the side of caution and reinstitute a mask policy.
Effective immediately, TBC will require anyone entering our building for any reason to wear a mask. The only exception to the mask requirement will be for fully vaccinated staff and clergy while in their offices and for clergy on the bimah.
We will continue to watch the infection rate closely and will keep you apprised of any changes. We thank you for your cooperation.

In this issue of Chailites we thank the following individuals who have generously contributed to TBC during July 2021.
To everyone who has supported TBC, we offer you our most sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude.

Wi-Act
Rise Against Hunger 2021 - Fundraising
Wi-Act is once again organizing a Rise Against Hunger event, and TBC is participating as we have for many years. The different faith institutions collect monetary donations to cover the cost of the food we package. RAH buys the supplies at a reduced rate needed for the meal packaging. Volunteers gather to package individual meals that get packed and brought back to RAH for distribution around the world. The date is October 23, 2021 to be held at the Wilton Episcopal Presbyterian Complex (WEPCO). We are asking members of Temple B’nai Chaim to please donate to the Tzedakah Fund designating RAH as the recipient. This is a wonderful event that brings the community together, something much needed after the last year. It will be done in a safe manner so that everyone feels comfortable.

The Weekly Torah Portion
R'eih
See [This Day I Set Before You Blessing and Curse]
Deuteronomy 11:26–16:17
- God places both blessing and curse before the Israelites. They are taught that blessing will come through the observance of God’s laws. (11:26–32)
- Moses’ third discourse includes laws about worship in a central place (12:1–28); injunctions against idolatry (12:29–13:19) and self-mutilation (14:1–2); dietary rules (14:3–21); and laws about tithes (14:22–25), debt remission (15:1–11), the release and treatment of Hebrew slaves (15:12–18), and firstlings (15:19–23).
-
Moses reviews the correct sacrifices to be offered during the Pilgrim Festivals—Pesach, Sukkot, and Shavuot. (16:1-17) Click here to learn more

It is traditional to light a memorial candle at home on the eve of the yahrzeit. You may also find it meaningful while kindling the yahrzeit candle to offer prayers of remembrance or reflect on their loved one’s life. Many also choose this time to make monetary donations in memory of loved ones.
