News You Can Use: September 21, 2020

Dear CCGS Families,
We had another great week here at Circle Center. It was especially great for me because I got to see so many of our eLearners at picture day and in their classrooms. All of our students looked so fancy and dressed up on Wednesday for their school pictures, and so did our teachers! This week while visiting classrooms, I saw students working on their sight words in Spelling City and other engaging formats, third graders with chef hats because they were cooking up their math skills with division and multiplication practice, learners working in small reading groups, and students setting goals for their center work. It is always so great to see our youngest students setting a goal for themselves and the pride they show when they reach that goal! Mrs. Anderson and I got to hear the Hopes and Dreams from Ms. Ripsch's classroom this week, and they have big goals to reach. This week, I also got to visit several remote classrooms. I noticed so many students paying attention, using math strategies to solve problems, students sharing in a morning meeting, a great Jolly Phonics and word work lesson, a reading lesson, and I even got to join in on some dancing and movement with our early childhood students! The efforts of everyone involved is so apparent and I couldn't be more proud of what I see each and every day we have school. The learning model does not matter. What does matter is we are all together and we are complete!

I hope you have a great weekend with your family this weekend.

Mrs. Hamm
Below are some pictures of students at work this week.
This student was so excited to be our shout out school prize winner! She got a special pencil and will be our pledge leader all of next week. To watch the pledge from home each day please visit our Google website.
Congratulations to our first Golden Platter Winner of the year! Ms. Lindner's classroom was chosen for following the 4 school cornerstones during lunch and recess this week.
Classroom Highlight of the Week

Learning Fun in Ms. Litchfield’s Class (Photos above)

Hello friends! We have had a great beginning to our year in room 202. Our main goal right now is building our classroom community. We take time every day to work together through discussion, problem solving, and team building. Our class has become experts at connecting our essential questions posed to any story they read in class. They have done a great job at incorporating those skills into their Seesaw activities too. Going to our outdoor provided learning zones have been a great way for us to incorporate scavenger hunts in Phonics and get fresh air while we learn. We have also really taken a step up in our Math conversations. We are exploring different strategies to prove our answers while using models and equations to back it up. Dreambox has been our favorite part of Math as it challenges us where we need it. Room 202 strives to solve any challenge and works together to succeed as a team!

  • Please make sure you are charging the chromebooks each night. All students are expected to bring home and charge their devices each night so they have a fully charged laptop at school.
  • Thank you for being ready for picture day! There will be a picture re-take day on October 22nd. More information will come home closer to the date. If your child is a remote student and you are either uncomfortable with him or her coming to school or are unable to come, we will be providing a way for your child to be included in the yearbook! Mrs. Anderson will provide that information when she is ready to start putting it all together.

Speaking of libraries:
  • Please check out this flyer from our local library.

  • All kindergarten students must have their physical, eye exam, and shot record turned in to Nurse Dawn by October 1st. All Early Childhood students must have their physicals and shot record completed and in the office by October 1st. Students that do not have these items turned in will be excluded from school. The state is not giving any leniency on this. This applies to remote students as well.
  • We will be doing a YEF 1.15 mile/5k fun run here at CCGS during PE classes next week. The class with the most registrations and donations will get to silly string the principals! With the help of our PTO we have created a CCGS fundraising page. Please click on the link to either donate to our school's page or to sign up your child or your family. Thank you so much to all of the families that have signed up so far. This is an all ages virtual race that culminates on September 27, the official "Yorkville Runs" Day. Registration is $10 and goes directly to our school. We will be using all funds collected to purchase birthday books for students and/or for our outdoor learning spaces.

Free Meal Program for All Children
On Tuesday, the district hosted its first community-wide weekly free meal distribution for all children age 18 and under who reside within in the district’s boundaries. The need within the Yorkville CUSD 115 community was greater than anticipated, and those staffing the distribution process appreciated the patience and understanding of those who waited in the drive through line to pick up the meals. District administration has reviewed the preparation and distribution processes and implemented changes to make next Tuesday’s distribution more efficient for families.

As a reminder:
Families do not need to sign up in order to participate in the program.
Students who attend school full day on-site will receive their meals at school. All other students can pick up their meals during the Tuesday meal distribution from 4-6 p.m. at Yorkville High School, 797 Game Farm Road.
The free meal program for all children is in effect until December 31, 2020.
This program is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Illinois State Board of Education. Additional information is available on the district website at www.y115.org/freemealprogram. Questions can be directed to the district’s Director of Business Services Mike Vargas at [email protected].
