Dr. Isaac Vaghefi
Dr. Isaac Vaghefi, an Assistant Professor of Information Systems at the Seidenberg School of CSIS, studies dependence and addiction to technological tools such as smartphones or social media, and ways individuals can break from these behaviors. His recent paper, “Dealing with social networking site addiction: a cognitive-affective model of discontinuance decisions" , provides an overview of users’ reaction in terms of quitting social media as a response to their awareness of existing addictions. In another forthcoming article in the Data Base for Advances in Information Systems, he proposes a typology of social media users’ addiction recovery strategies, according to their personality traits. With his collaborators from University of Southern California, and University of Hawaii, he is currently investigating how and why social media users take temporary breaks from social media technologies.
