Tips for Healthcare Professionals: Coping with Stress and Compassion Fatigue

As a healthcare professional, you may face stress on the job under usual conditions due to long shifts, competing responsibilities, and witnessing or hearing about difficult patient experiences. As a responder on the front lines of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, you are likely working longer hours, seeing loved ones less, and working in a more stressful environment. At the same time, you may be coping with the mental health effects that all types of disasters, including public health emergencies, often have. As such, you may be noticing signs of stress and distress in yourself and your coworkers.

Tips for Managing Your Distress Related to Wildfires

Even if you are not directly affected by wildfires, you may experience a sense of distress or vulnerability by living close by or watching the destruction unfold in news reports.

Healing Justice Is How We Can Sustain Black Lives
We are literally - not figuratively - in a fight for our lives.

Right now, those of us most vulnerable and least protected are under attack and whole communities Black, Muslim, disabled, queer, trans, and women-identified folks are being targeted in the streets and in legislative halls. The threats are real and calculated. And the attempts to shore up the institutional correlation between the right to live and able-bodied, white, monied maleness is dangerous and deadly for the rest of us. We can't overstate the impact that the outright plunder of hard-won rights has on our lives and the lives of those around us.
