Student Life
Lunar New Year Celebration
During the weekend, Brooks' Asian Student Alliance (ASA) organized its annual Lunar New Year celebration. (The event has been a longstanding Brooks tradition, and two years ago the ASA took on the challenge of pulling it together). Participants gathered in the student center, enjoyed food catered by Jade North Andover and shared a little bit about their Lunar New Year traditions from back home.

The Asian Student Alliance is the affinity group for Asian and Asian-American students on Brooks' campus. Besides hosting events like the Lunar New Year dinner, the group meets regularly to help the Asian student body navigate the school and advance the school's diversity, equity and inclusion programs.

Academics
Six Brooks students participated in the Girls in STEAM Leadership Summit at Cushing Academy on Jan. 30. "The summit was great," one student reported. "It was interactive, informative and broadened my perspective." Kudos to our students for taking advantage of such a transformative conference!
Learning Center Resources
Looking for documents to help your student with time management, active reading, note-taking or studying? The Brooks School Learning Center has resources to help students start the second semester off with organization and efficiency! Visit our resources by going to OnBrooks > Groups > Learning Center and explore the Bulletin Board as well as the Topics page. Blank schedules, study skills suggestions, active reading guidelines and note-taking tools may be referenced, and students can utilize them to help with organization, as well as to boost and sustain motivation. The Learning Center will continue to add and update information throughout the school year.
College Scholarship Opportunity for Andover Residents
This year Andona, a local non-profit organization located in Andover, will be awarding six $2,000 scholarships to graduates in the class of 2023. Brooks students who are legal residents of Andover are encouraged to apply. Application materials are due by March 3.
Class of 2024: Registering for SAT/ACTs
It is not too soon to register for upcoming SAT and/or ACT tests. Most students in the class of 2024 should register for one or more of these tests. The next SAT is on March 11. Brooks is NOT a test site for the March SAT. The registration deadline for the March 11 SAT is Feb. 10.

Brooks is an unlisted test center for the ACT on April 15 and the SAT on May 6 and June 4. Because only Brooks students may take the test at Brooks, you may not see Brooks pop up as an option on the registration page.

You need to enter the test center code into the search bar. Only Brooks students can register to take the tests at Brooks.

  • The test center code for the ACT is: 224020

  • The test center code for the SAT is: 22584
Arts
Save the Date: Chamber Music Concert
Boston-based violinists Drs. Tudor Dornescu and Aleksandra Labinska (shown above) recently came to campus for their first visit to help coach our string quartets and trios, made up of instrumentalists in the Brooks Chamber Ensemble! As experienced string pedagogues, they brought their extensive knowledge of high-level performing to their work with the students on technique, beautiful tone and musicality.

We are so lucky to have the musicians working with our students for the month of February and can't wait to hear the students perform their pieces in the Robert Lehman Art Center on March 2 at 7 p.m.

We Are So Close to Our Crumbl Cookies Valentine's Goal!
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our Valentine’s Day "Treats for Your Sweets" event for the Brooks community. As a reminder, we are bringing a Crumbl Cookies buffet to the Keating Room and we still need to purchase 100 more cookies to reach our goal of 400 cookies. Please consider a donation to help cover the cost of purchasing amazing cookies or visit our Amazon wish list, as we are also planning to have a few raffles for Amazon gift cards. Below are the ways you can contribute to this event:

  • Venmo a donation in an amount of your choice to underwrite the cost of Crumbl Cookies: ten cookies for $30 or four for $12. (Venmo your donation to @Jessica-Kelleher-3 and she will take care of the rest)!

  • Check out our Amazon wish list to donate Valentine's Day candy or purchase Amazon gift cards to be used for our raffles.

Thank you to co-chairs Jessie Kelleher P'24 and Jaclyn Olivieri P’26 for coordinating this event! Any questions? Please contact Jessie, Jaclyn or Director of the Brooks Fund and Family Engagement Mary Merrill.
