City Earns Over $600k in Tax Credits

Oakland Park aggressively pursues funding opportunities to supplement its annual operating budget. Since 2021 Oakland Park has earned over $630,000 in tax credits for improving city-owned land. As Oakland Park planned for its future, it designated two city properties—the vacant lots on North Dixie Highway and the Public Works facility on Park Lane—brownfield sites. The City committed to remediating the land at these locations before redevelopment. The brownfield designation enables the City to recover most cleanup costs as Voluntary Cleanup Tax Credits from the state of Florida, which has resulted in $630,119.78 in tax credits. The City plans to seek additional tax credits in 2023. The cleanup is a win-win for Oakland Park, reinforcing its commitment to sustainability, saving taxpayer dollars, and allowing for the redevelopment of the property into projects that will serve the community.
