Halloween Costume
We certainly do not need a reminder that things are different this year. Covid has impacted us all in some way and fashion. Although we are not holding our usual
Trick or Trunk this year, we wanted to provide you with options on what you can do to make this Halloween fun, safe and memorable! We encourage you to make special memories for your loved ones and local community despite the challenges that we are facing. Have fun!

20 FUN and ALTERNATIVE IDEAS FOR HALLOWEEN during COVID

  1. Carve or decorate a pumpkin or two! Shop local if you can. Save the seeds to dry and plant them next Spring!
  2. Decorate your house! Maybe create a theme for each room? Try and use materials you already have on hand. Construction paper, magazine cut outs, paper plates, markers and crayons.
  3. Watch a Halloween movie. Hocus Pocus, It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown, Beetlejuice to name a few. Check out the Library’s selection online!
  4. Wear a COSTUME. Break out the play clothes bin and wear MULTIPLE costumes! Wear your costume ALL DAY. Or find festive pajamas and have a pajama day!
  5. Play Halloween music. Amazon Music, Spotify, Pandora, even YouTube have great selections.
  6. Trick a family member “April Fool’s style” by hiding a play spider in their bed, or a paper rat under their pillow! Eeek!
  7. Have a virtual Halloween Hangout with friends! Use Google Hangouts, Zoom, GoToMeeting or another platform to show off your costume to friends and family, and giggle your way through the day!
  8. Play a game! Bob for apples, have a spoon and “egg” race with eyeball candy or bouncy balls, Halloween charades, CLUE, pin the “Spider” on the web, make a ring toss with a witch’s hat, BINGO, or find a spooky puzzle to build together.
  9. Make Fall crafts. Break out the paper, stickers, and googly eyes and create your best silly goblin! Or, get a move on making crafts for Thanksgiving!
  10. Create a photo booth at home! Take some silly pictures with all kinds of props in front of a simple backdrop (old sheet, tablecloth, door) and create photo memories that will last a lifetime!
  11. Paint your face! Try your hand at painting your face to reflect your costume, mood or creativity!
  12. Order takeout. Ask your local pizza place if they’re willing to make a “Jack O Lantern” pizza with the toppings or make your own with a kit!
  13. Try a new candy you’ve never had before.
  14. Make a scavenger hunt for small treats and candy throughout your house or yard. Get some glow in the dark bracelets to make them easier to find!
  15. Trick or Treat in the safety of your own home! Family members can each take a room in the house, dress as a different character (change of hat, scarf, sunglasses, etc) and the children can trick or treat safely inside in each room of your house multiple times until all the treats have been handed out.
  16. Prepare festive foods! Create festive dessert, “mock”tail with apple cider, silly spooky snacks or a meal that are cause for celebration! Caramel apples, a veggie platter shaped like a pumpkin, orange fruits, cheesy ghosts with crackers, GREEN dip (guacamole), dip strawberries in white chocolate for “Strawberry Ghosts”, Marshmallow Ghosts, meatball “eyeballs” with spaghetti, deviled eggs, Jack O’ Lantern quesadillas, green pesto mac n’ cheese, ice cream sundaes with Oreo spiders. Go wild!
  17. Go for a hike. See if you can find spider webs, nests, crows or even a ghoulish tree!
  18. Visit a local farm. Ride a hay wagon, pick a pumpkin or apples, explore a corn maze, and enjoy the sunset!
  19. Have a fire pit night or make a fire in your fireplace.
  20. Read some favorite Halloween stories! Again, visit our local Library, or Book Cellar to see what's available!

BONUS: Drop off an unopened bag of Halloween treats to the Food Bank or Senior Center to spread the joy to others!
