If you listen to our worship services by phone, please note a change that's coming beginning this Sunday. Zoom has added mandatory safety features which will change your call-in procedure. You will still dial the same number (312-626-6799) and then enter the same meeting ID (206 385 039) followed by #. The change is that you will now need to add the passcode 236838 followed by #. Thanks for finding a way to listen!

Based on the sharp increase of Covid-19 cases in Brown County, several important changes are being announced to help keep our church family and community safe. Sadly, our Men's Club has decided to cancel this year's Fruitcake Sale. It has also been decided to postpone the Church Yard Sale & Brat Fundraiser scheduled for mid-October. Finally, the Session Retreat scheduled for this weekend has been postponed. Please watch for more possible changes as they are announced. Thanks for your understanding. Stay safe!

Guided Meditation Gathering
Our Worship & Music Ministry invites you to join us for a special Guided Meditation Gathering on Sunday, October 18, from 7-7:30pm. With internal stresses running high, we could all use a time to center our thoughts in the presence of God and our church family with some prayerful meditation. Use this special time to rest your mind in God’s hands. It's planned for outside near our fire pit if the weather permits (if not, in the Family Life Center). Please dress warm, bring a lawn chair, and join us for this special time together.

Many hands make light work. Please join the Buildings & Grounds Ministry to help with mainly outdoor cleanup on Saturday, October 10, beginning at 8:30am (rain date will be October 24). We are grateful for Kevin Spiegel and the Building & Grounds Ministry members for their dedication to our building, but they could use your help. Come on out and lend a hand (with safe distancing) to get our grounds spruced up and ready for winter.

This Sunday Worship Update
It's the first Sunday of a new month, so we'll be celebrating Communion. If you are worshiping online, please remember to have your elements ready to go. If you're joining us in the sanctuary, please bring your elements with you if you wish to partake in the sacrament during the service.
As we continue the second week of our Stewardship theme - "Sharing the Light of Christ" - we'll be focusing on the scripture passage from John 1:1-5. In the Gospel of John, we are confronted with the question - How are you reflecting God's light in the world today? Learn how God's light is more than enough for a world that prefers the dark. We'll also look forward to hearing another personal example of how First United helps one member to “Share the Light of Christ” in their life, and well hear from two more of our ministry groups about their plans. We sure hope you'll join us on Sunday!
How to Join Us for Worship
>Join us Sunday morning at 9:45 in the Sanctuary where we're keeping it safe! Enter through the front Webster doors, wear a mask, and be seated with social distancing to help protect our church family.
>If you are not yet ready for in-person worship, you can also join us for a live stream of our service on Facebook at 9:45am.
>For a sound-only connection, you can call Zoom at 1-312-626-6799 around 9:30am. Enter meeting ID 206 385 039 followed by #.
*NEW THIS WEEK - You must also enter the passcode 236838 followed by #.

Weekly Adult "Zoom" Sunday School
Join Pastor Luke every Sunday at 8:30am via Zoom for a weekly option for Adult Sunday School. We'll continue an eight week study of Mere Christianity by C.S.Lewis. We've had a great turn out last week, but there is always room for more. The class will finish at 9:15 which will allow time for those who wish to attend church in the sanctuary to get there on time.
Here's how you can join the class on Sunday!

CORE & JAM This Sunday!
This Sunday is the first Sunday of the month, so there will be no Sunday School (back on the 2nd & 4th Sundays). This Sunday, our CORE and JAM Youth Groups will be meeting after worship at 11am. They will be continuing their “Comeback” series exploring how we can change our setbacks into comebacks. A reminder - if it's raining, they will meet in the Youth Room (please enter the doors by the office and wear a mask). See you Sunday!

October 18 is "Commitment Sunday" for turning in your 2021 Estimate of Giving
Over the next few weeks we will be highlighting how your offerings are planned to be used during 2021.
The Finance Ministry’s goal is to manage the funds in a Christian and transparent manner to meet the mission and vision of First United. Finance works with our financial partners, makes monthly reviews and reports First United’s finances to Session, and supports our Treasurer, John Eggers. We are fortunate to have someone with John’s dedication and experience. We will continue to make monthly automatic bank withdrawal and/or electronic offerings options available to members by using our website and/or smart phones apps.
The Christian Education Ministry is looking forward to another wonderful year. While Covid-19 changed the way things had to be done, we are happy to say that we kept up with our educational offerings by moving things online. As we plan for the remainder of 2020 and into 2021, we are safely offering Christian Education opportunities for all ages. We have online and in-person adult Sunday school, in-person Sunday school on the 2nd and 4th Sundays at 11am for age 3-12th grade students, and youth group for our CORE (6th-8th) and JAM (9th -12th) students in-person on the 1st and 3rd Sundays at 11am. We are planning for family events, small group gatherings (in-person and online), summer trips for CORE and JAM, and Vacation Bible School themed "Treasured: Discovering You're Priceless to God." In an ever-changing and unpredictable world, the CE Ministry strives to continue to be a constant for our children, youth, and adults to continue to grow in their knowledge of God's love and grace so that they can share it with others!
