Certification Extension Update

During their monthly meeting last week, the IMSA Board of Directors voted to grant a six month extension to IMSA certificates expiring in October, November and December of 2020. This is in addition to previous extensions announced this spring.

This means that all IMSA certifications expiring between March and December 2020 will be granted a six month extension from original expiration date. This will enable certificate holders to avoid a lapse as COVID-delayed classes resume.

You can view your certification status by signing in to your IMSA profile.
New IMSA Manual Store Goes Live

We're excited to launch a new store to make ordering certification manuals and materials much easier. You will notice better navigation, real time shipping rates, better ordering for IMSA sections, ability to pay by purchase order or credit card, and notifications when your order processes and ships. Travis and our IT team have spent several months implementing new software and are glad to finally open the new store to serve you better.

Classes are coming this fall. Visit imsasafety.org to place your order. You will need to sign into your IMSA account.

Aerial Fiber: Time to Start Looking Up

When industry conferences and meetings were cancelled this Spring, I missed three industry meetings in one month. The only meeting I regretted missing was the “Excavation Safety
Conference” run by the Common Ground Alliance – the “Call Before You Dig” or “Call 811” group devoted to preventing damage to underground utilities. My talk was to be on “New
Methods of Construction in Fiber Optics,” showing how fiber construction in metro areas was moving toward more microtrenching and directional boring. Members, sign in to read more.

5 Ways to Protect Communities in the Wake of Natural Disasters

Don't be caught off-guard in the face of a natural disaster. Transportation systems need to be running at 100% to ensure that people can be quickly and safely evacuated from the affected area. In addition, lifesaving equipment and information technology must be protected from failure. Power may be interrupted even if only a few components are damaged. Are you prepared? Learn more.

Product Spotlight
CyberLock
Managing access to traffic cabinets is challenging. The same key used in Seattle could also be used in any number of cities. To make matters worse, mechanical keys can be easily purchased on eBay. With expensive equipment, public safety, and private network access at stake, CyberLock electronic locks are the ideal replacement for mechanical locks and easily duplicated #2 keys.

CyberLock cylinders require no hardwiring. CyberKey smart keys are battery powered and are programmed with specific access schedules for each key-holder. Time stamped audit records are stored in both the lock and the key, providing critical feedback regarding access history. Learn more.
