Dear Friends and Neighbors,
My Office has worked to inform you of an increase in certain types of criminal activity throughout the Borough of Queens.

That’s why I want to let you know about an uptick in theft involving personal vehicles - a trend that is being reported across the City. Cars that are left running or unattended are most at risk, especially during food pick-ups.

My Office is routinely in touch with local law enforcement partners to deter and crack down on these crimes but preventative measures are just as important. Take the necessary steps to safeguard your vehicle:

  • Never leave your keys or key fobs inside the car
  • Never leave your car running, even if you're stepping out for "just a second"
  • Take the time to close and lock all windows and doors when you park
  • Park in well-lit, well-trafficked areas, whenever possible
  • Never leave valuables in your vehicle, especially if they can be seen from outside

It's worth noting that theft of car parts, including catalytic converters, is also on the rise. You may not be able to tell your catalytic converter was stolen by looking at your car, but you will know as soon as you start the engine because your vehicle will make a loud roaring sound.

If you become a victim, make sure to immediately report the theft to your police precinct. The sooner the police can gather evidence, the stronger the case.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact my Major Economic Crimes Bureau by calling 718.286.6673 or emailing MajorEcoCrimes@queensda.org. We're here to help.

Queens District Attorney
In The Courts
  • Disbarred lawyer sentenced to prison for swindling dozens of clients out of more than $1.8 million
  • Connecticut man indicted for murder extradited from Los Angeles to face charges for 2018 tinder date strangulation death of Queens nurse
U.S. Supreme Court
Yesterday marked a monumental occasion as Judge Kentaji Brown Jackson became the first Black woman (and first public defender) to be confirmed to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. Her journey will undoubtedly continue to inspire millions of women leaders in our nation and beyond.

It was an amazing moment to witness and I look forward to her tenure on our nation's highest court.
The State of Criminal Justice
I joined my fellow City District Attorneys for a panel discussion, hosted by the National Action Network, on protecting our communities while preserving equal justice under the law. We discussed efforts being made by our respective offices to keep our neighborhoods safe, strengthen partnerships with the people we serve, and help empower our young people to make good choices.

Public safety and fairness are not in conflict. We can, and we will, ensure a system of justice that is fair and equal to all.
Gun Buyback Program
Since the beginning of my administration, our community gun buyback programs have taken more than 300 operational weapons off the streets of Queens. Each of these weapons represents a potential tragedy averted.

On Saturday, August 23rd, surrender an operable firearm and receive a $200 bank card AND an iPad, with absolutely no questions asked. View additional details below and help us spread the word!
Information Wanted
As part of our regular call for help, we are asking for any information regarding the death of Leah Tagliaferri, found strangled to death in her home in Woodside, Queens.

This week marked 20 years since her death. Although our cases may grow cold, they are never forgotten. Help us bring justice by contacting NYPD Crimestoppers via 800.577.8477 or the online form. All tips are confidential.
Barbershop Talks
I recently had the opportunity to join The Fatherhood Initiative of NYC Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) for their monthly virtual series called Barbershop Talks. This month's topic focused on the issue of human trafficking and how community members can help to identify, report, and prevent trafficking throughout our City. You may watch the conversation in full by clicking here.

During my first six months in office, I created a dedicated Human Trafficking Bureau solely for the purpose of combating this criminal industry. Don't hesitate to contact the Bureau via 718-286-6548 or HumanTrafficking@queensda.org, if you need assistance.
Serving Survivors of Gender-Based Violence
My Office is teaming up with the Mayor's Office to End Domestic and Gender-Based Violence, Safe Horizon, and Mount Sinai's Sexual Assault and Violence Intervention Program to host a panel discussion on resources available to survivors of gender-based violence.

Please join this virtual event on Thursday, April 14th at 10:30 AM by clicking here.
