Are You Ready? If you’re a Cape Codder born and bred, you know that mother nature is more than capable of wreaking havoc on hearth and home. Whether it’s a windswept nor’easter or a bona fide blizzard, Cape Cod is often host to sustained winds which can leave us without power – and heat –for days. Chip Reilly, Emergency Preparedness Specialist for Barnstable County, instructs attendees how to set up an emergency kit, safely shelter in place, and how to accommodate the elderly or those with disabilities during a storm. Watch the replay video below.

Did you receive a new device

over the holidays?

Could you use a little help setting it up? Attend one of the Osterville Village Library’s “Tech Outreach” sessions. Make a 30 minute appointment with Osterville Village Library staff member Davis Hanberry to receive help navigating and understanding your smart phone, tablet or laptop computer. Please keep in mind; he may not be able to answer every question, but will be able to help with many. Remember to bring along any passwords you will need in order to access email or other accounts. Call 508-428-5757 to make your 30 minute appointment.

The "I Am A Man" VR experience allows you to literally walk in the shoes of the people who fought for freedom and equality during the civil rights era. Most importantly, this project gives users a deeper awareness of their struggle. Using historical film and photographs, along with voice narrations of actual Civil Rights participants, the project falls along the lines of a new type of interactive-documentary experience.

Apollo 11 is the story of the greatest journey ever taken by humankind.

Now you get to experience this historic event through the eyes of those who lived through it. Using a mix of original archive audio and video together with accurate recreations of the spacecraft and locations, all set to inspirational music, get set for an experience that will not only educate you but will also leave a lasting impression and deep respect for the men and women who worked on the Apollo program during NASA’s golden era.

Puzzles as Art

Art Cornell's Puzzle Exhibit For January in the Shutterbug Gallery

The fine “art” of piecing together a puzzle! Starting Saturday, January 7 and continuing through the month of January, Art Cornell, Osterville Village Library's mathematician and astronomer in residence, will present an exhibit of 13 jigsaw puzzles. Each puzzle assembled by Art contains an interesting story. Besides one puzzle drawn by Art himself, there are others depicting scenes by Vincent Van Gogh, Edward Munch, George Seurat, Alan Turing, and a few other artists. Please come by and meet Art, who will likely be assembling a puzzle in the library atrium. In addition, the Osterville Village Library has over 100 puzzles you can borrow and piece together at home.

Rich Nocella, an accredited Tai Chi Chih instructor, will hold an 8 week program of classes at the Osterville Village Library. You will be expertly guided through a series of poses and graceful movements designed to balance your body’s intrinsic energy. T’ai Chi Chih, which besides being fun to say, is not a martial art. It is a non – violent practice of movements that do not require any particular level of physical fitness or coordination, and is suitable for any age.
