Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church is a congregation that
values a diversity of belief. Whether you're full of faith or full of doubt,
you'll find people who have been there and accept you for where you are.

We welcome all people to worship, pray, eat, seek spiritual answers and enjoy life within this community of faith. All are welcome!
Christmas Worship and
the Blessing Box
"The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who lived in a land of deep darkness — on them light has shined... For a child has been born for us, a son given to us; authority rests upon his shoulders; and he is named Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Isaiah 9:2,6-7, NRSV)
On Christmas Eve, Joseph and Mary were in need of assistance as they laid God's light in a manger because there was no room for them in the inn. Christ came into the world in a way that was dependent upon the care of others and received gifts from those who had never met him.

On both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, the Missions Ministry Team is asking for donations to keep our Blessing Box full to support those in need. Items may be chosen from the following list and placed in boxes near the Chrismon Tree in the sanctuary at either worship service. All are welcome to participate in this simple service opportunity as we seek to shine a great light in the midst of any darkness. Thank you for your willingness to help be a blessing to others in our community!
What a Wonderful
Lessons and Carols Service!

December Session Summary
Your Session met on Monday evening December 19th. Business items approved included the purchase of a dual-use computer for live-streaming Sunday worship and for church office publishing tasks along with a PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) camera kit to link with that computer for a significant upgrade in our live-stream worship video experience. A Congregational Meeting was also called by Session for January 8, 2023 for the purpose of reviewing 2022 Financials, receiving the approved budget for 2023 and reviewing the Pastor’s annual terms of call. Session will next meet for a Visioning Retreat on January 14, 2023 and for the Stated Session meeting on January 16, 2023.

Respectfully,

David and Clark
Save the Date for
CHPC's Anniversary Celebration!
CHPC will be celebrating our 75th anniversary in ministry next year on January 15, 2023. We will be joined by the Rev. Dr. Anna Carter Florence, the Peter Marshall Professor of Preaching at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia! Dr. Carter Florence is a nationally known Presbyterian preacher who is passionate about creative strategies for communities to engage and encounter the biblical text. We are delighted to welcome her into the pulpit on January 15 to celebrate with us and to host a community conversation with her later that afternoon about the Book of Jonah. All are welcome to join us in worship and to attend this public event at 5pm. Please spread the word about this great opportunity to learn and worship as we give thanks to God for our past while looking forward to our future!
Congregational News
Please be aware that a member of our church family tested positive for the coronavirus after worship this past Sunday. Prayers are appreciated for those who are wresting with symptoms. Thank you for loving and supporting all our neighbors as we continue to navigate the effects of this virus.

The flowers in the Sanctuary are given to the Glory of God and placed in memory of Perry and Ada Newman by Dusty Newman.

A Service of Witness to the Resurrection in celebration of the life of Betty Renfro will be held at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home on Thursday, December 23 at 2 pm. A visitation with her family will be held before beginning at 12pm. Please hold Betty's entire family in prayer at this time.

Don't forget on Christmas Day that CHPC celebrates Christ's birth with a special carols service at 4pm. There will be no Sunday morning service on the 25th. Regular worship at 10am resumes on Sunday, January 1st as we reflect upon a new year with the help of the book of Ecclesiastes.

The Youth Group will not gather this Sunday, December 25 as we wish for everyone to come and enjoy our Christmas Carols worship service.

In observance of the Christmas and New Years holiday, the church office will be closed on December 26, 2022 and January 2, 2023.

The Youth Group will have a special meeting in partnership with Waverly Road Presbyterian Church from 5-7p on Sunday, January 8 down in the Youth Center. We will be discussing opportunities for a 2023 Youth summer trip. Dinner included and all youth parents are also encouraged to attend. For further questions, reach out to Tyler.

Save the date for a worship volunteer training on Sunday, January 29 after Sunday School at noon. Anyone interested in serving as a liturgist, usher, or communion preparer is welcome to attend. Lunch will be provided.

Thank you to everyone who supported this year's Christmas Joy Special Offering! Your gift supports current and retired church leaders and helps to develop new leaders at Presbyterian-related schools and colleges serving communities of color. To give, use the offering envelope provided or give online. Please also let Sarah know to credit your gift to the offering.

Thank you for your continued support of Colonial Heights Presbyterian Church throughout all of 2022. Your generous gifts help to make our collective ministry possible! As the year comes to a close, please ensure any final contributions are postmarked by December 31 to be included in this year's final giving statement. Please contact Sarah Johnson at finance@chpres.org or by calling the office if you have any questions about your giving. Sarah will be in the office on Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 to 1:30pm and Wednesday until 1pm.
