Installation of new 20 MPH speed limit signs is anticipated for the week of June 28 in the area of Lexington Center as part of a newly established safety zone. The reduced speed limit is intended to keep drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists safer in this highly trafficked section of town.
The safety zone limits include:
- Massachusetts Avenue From Harrington Road to Slocum Road;
- Bedford Street From Harrington Road to Massachusetts Avenue;
- Hancock Street From Bikeway Crossing to Bedford Street;
- Harrington Road From Massachusetts Avenue to Hancock Street;
- Meriam Street From Bikeway Crossing to Massachusetts Avenue;
- Waltham Street From Massachusetts Avenue to Vinebrook Road;
- Woburn Street From Hayes Lane to Massachusetts Avenue.
The Transportation Safety Group (TSG), made up of staff representatives from various Town Departments, conducted roadway, crash, and traffic analysis and recommended that the Town establish the safety zone, which was then approved by the Select Board.
