National Farmer's Day -
Celebrate Your Dairy's Story
National Farmer's Day on October 12 offers the perfect opportunity to create and strengthen our connections with consumers on social media and in your community.

I urge you to take a few minutes to engage in meaningful conversations, build consumer trust in the food you produce and the sustainable practices you use. Share how proud you are to be part of a great family business that produces a wonderful, wholesome product. Let consumers know how you work to take care of your cows, community, people and land.

Consumers are curious about what farmers do. They want to know stories about us, our families and the cheese and dairy products we produce. It’s knowledge only we can share.

Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin research shows that an amazing 90% of Wisconsinites trust us to provide safe and nutritious dairy products. But our work can’t stop there. We must continue to tell our story. We must keep dialogues going to not only maintain trust, but build on it with today’s shoppers and the next generation of decision makers.

Checkoff advances the Wisconsin dairy story, too. From media interviews and news articles to social channel posts, DFW is constantly working to connect consumers to dairy farmers. And they do this while tapping into real-time, relevant conversations where they can impact on building relationships.

As Wisconsin dairy farmers, we have amazing stories to tell. Take a moment to share yours with consumers on National Farmer's Day – and every day.

Alice in Dairyland Amplifying Farmer Stories
Alice in Dairyland is a conduit for Wisconsin dairy farmers to share their messages with consumers. Julia Nunes, the current Alice and a dairy farmer's daughter, is sharing Wisconsin's agricultural story with consumers interested in learning how you care for your cows, your community and your land.

Throughout the past year, Alice in Dairyland partnered with DFW and UW Discovery Farms to highlight how dairy farmers work hard to protect their land and water resources. She utilized a traveling model to demonstrate how cover crops, one method of environmental stewardship, help farmers care for their topsoil. This demonstration was extremely well received by media stations across the state, reaching 1.57 million consumers.

Alice is reaching new audiences by working with initiatives such as the new Dairy Patch Program, a partnership with Badgerland Girl Scouts and Dane County Dairy Promotion. Alice will share dairy's nutrition, farmer stories and help girls discover the many careers available in agriculture. The program will culminate with a dairy farm tour hosted by the Dane County Dairy Promotion Committee.

National Farmer’s Day is October 12. Follow Alice on social media, Wisconsin broadcast and radio to hear dairy messages which help to build trust for farmers, farming and the products that make America’s Dairyland unique.
