From Our Executive Director Summer is here and The Arc is buzzing with activity! From upcoming in-person events to ongoing growth and diversification of services, the next few months promise to be active and fulfilling.   The Arc’s Day Services staff are developing plans to welcome more participants back soon and our support services for people with an acquired brain injury continue to grow with the planned addition of another home slated to open later this year.   Though DDS guidelines still necessitate the use of masks for our Day Program staff and participants, and our ABI staff and residents in certain situations, we remain hopeful that continued vaccination progress will lead to updated guidance soon. If you haven't gotten vaccinated yet, you can head to the VaxFinder website and find a convenient location near you.   Our 1-year strategic plan will expire soon at which time the Senior Administrative Team and the Board of Directors will work to outline how we move "forward together" as an organization. You'll notice our theme of "forward together" over the next few months, as we present our Annual Report and begin to host in-person events. I am very proud of our collective accomplishments over the past year and I’m thankful for the dedication and compassion of our amazing employees, the families we partner with, our supportive and talented Board of Directors and of course all the people we have the extraordinary pleasure to serve each and every day. PLYMOUTH WATERFRONT FESTIVAL Saturday, August 28th 10:00am - 6:00pm The Waterfront Festival is back! Enjoy exhibitors, vendors, crafters, food, kids entertainment, and more. The Arc will see you there, with our own exhibitor's table with giveaways and resource information.

COVID-19 Updates On June 14th, DDS Commissioner Jane Ryder released a letter containing updated guidance for providers as we continue to navigate the pandemic.   Every agency is approaching ongoing Covid-related changes differently. We appreciate your patience as we maneuver through the ever-developing guidelines while ensuring the health and safety of those we support and our staff.   Individuals and/or families with questions or concerns are encouraged to reach out to their respective Program Director or House Manager. For a list of contact information by program, click here.

Building Community Scholarships We were pleased to award five local high school graduating seniors each with a $500 scholarship as part of our Building Community Scholarship Program. The 2020 recipients are: Noelle Tosone from Pembroke High School, Christopher Schena from Plymouth South High School, Mariah Chuong from Plymouth North High School, Rebecca Dion from Carver High School, and Sophia Lennon from Rising Tide.   “We were delighted to be able to offer scholarships and encouragement to the next generation of human services leadership during a year that involved challenges for many students,” said Mary Valachovic, Executive Director. “The stories of volunteerism and advocacy efforts that these passionate students take part in were inspiring to read,” continued Kathy Baldwin, Director of Program Development. “They give us great optimism about the future of mission-driven organizations.”   The Building Community Scholarship Program was created to benefit local deserving seniors who hold a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 and who have demonstrated commitment to the human services field by volunteering or participating in programs that foster greater community inclusion of people with developmental disabilities.
