Health Policy Update

As CDC and SDUSD policies have changed surrounding Covid-19, we are updating our health and safety precautions to better reflect the current guidance. Please read below, as the policies are different, depending on rehearsal location.

All Balboa Park Rehearsals
The City of San Diego Parks & Recreation Department requires the following of the Casa del Prado where our Prelude, Inspiration, and Showcase level rehearsals and chamber music coachings are located:

  • Masks are still required for all UNVACCINATED students inside any room. This includes all classrooms and the SDYS office.
  • Bell covers are required for all UNVACCINATED wind and brass players for the entire rehearsal.
  • Vaccinated students are not required, but strongly encouraged, to remain masked for the entire duration of their SDYS rehearsals.

All Wilson MS Rehearsals
As Wilson MS is a part of SDUSD, district guidelines will be followed for Ovation students:

  • Masks are no longer required, but strongly encouraged, for the entire duration of their SDYS rehearsals.
  • Bell covers are no longer required for wind and brass players.

Rehearsals will remain closed to parents for the rest of the 2021-2022 season. We look forward to reopening rehearsals next season to all parents and visitors!

Come Volunteer for ChIMES!
Get a FREE snack voucher to redeem at an SDYS rehearsal!

SDYS' ChIMES program introduces the foundations of music to babies, toddlers, and preschoolers through singing, movement and rhythm activities. One of their favourite parts of class is learning about different instruments from SDYS students like you! As a ChIMES Guest Musician volunteer, you would come visit a ChIMES class to demonstrate your instrument (by playing a very short piece of music of your choosing, and a children's song like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) and answer any questions families might have about your instrument and being part of SDYS. Students of all ages and from all SDYS ensembles are welcome!  Learn more about becoming a ChIMES Guest Musician here.

Please complete the Guest Musician Interest Form if you are interested - we have volunteer slots available Wed-Sat mornings in April and May! This is a fun experience that also counts for community service or volunteer hours, PLUS you will receive a voucher for a FREE snack at an SDYS rehearsal!

Email us at chimes@sdys.org with any questions. Thank you!
