Innovative virtual platform underway to support new nurses’ transition into the profession
The Canadian Nurses Foundation (CNF) and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA) have come together to help create a network of information and social connection for future and newly graduated licensed practical nurses, registered practical nurses, registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses transitioning into professional practice roles for the first time.
With a generous grant from CNF and with administrative support from CNA, Judy Duchscher (MN, PhD) has been able to bring together a national team of students, new graduates and expert nurses to develop Nursing The Future, a virtual platform of support for newly graduated nurses.

Adult Cancer Survivorship Manual —
A Self Learning Resource for Nurses
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) emphasized the importance of establishing survivorship as a distinct phase in the cancer continuum. It is accepted that high quality care results in improved outcomes for people treated for cancer.
Nurses are ideally positioned to review survivorship care plans with patients at the end of their treatment. Educating patients and families about what to expect, late and persisting effects, and the surveillance plan helps them set appropriate expectations, avoid frustration, become better equipped to navigate the cancer system, advocate for themselves, and engage in self-management of long-term effects.
The Canadian Association for Nurses in Oncology/ Association canadienne des infirmières en oncologie (CANO/ACIO), together with the Survivorship Special Interest Group, has developed an Adult Cancer Survivorship Manual — A Self Learning Resource for Nurses. This is a free resource for CANO/ACIO members and is available for a fee to non-members. This resource is available in English and French.
The goal of this resource manual is to provide evidence-based knowledge that will increase awareness of the important role nurses play in cancer survivorship care, allowing nurses to deliver a higher quality of care to patients and families during survivorship. The manual will serve as a highly practical and invaluable clinical resource for the nurse at the point of care.
There are a total of twelve modules within the complete manual:
The entire manual can be purchased or each individual module. A special introductory price is being offered until December 31, 2020 at $65 for the entire resource or $20 for each unit. After January 1, 2021, the manual can be obtained for $80.
