Last week I had the rare pleasure of seeing two of my bills pass through committee unanimously.
The first bill,
SB18-067, addressed the issue of allowing organizations to conduct charity auctions of sealed alcohol.
The bill was placed on the consent calendar and passed on third reading on Friday. To learn more, click HERE for a write up by the Denver Business Journal.
The second bill,
SB18-069, was to address the issue of community college transfer agreements. The legislation clarifies requirements four-year institutions must adhere to when admitting a transfer student. The bill passed on third reading and nearly the full senate signed as co-sponsors.
Both bills will now head to the House for consideration.

Bills in committee this week
On Monday, I'll be presenting SB18-082, concerning a physician's right to provide continuing care to patients with rare disorders despite a covenant not to compete. This issue was brought to me by constituent, Susan Hoyt, whose daughter has a rare disease.
The Hoyts were left in the dark when their daughter's physician took another job. They were quite disturbed to lose the physician treating their daughter, especially when they had no idea what happened. The bill will be heard in the State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee tomorrow at 1:30 pm.

Finally fixed SB267 error
Last October,
the legislature came together in a special session to address a drafting error that inadvertently exempted certain special districts from receiving tax money from retail marijuana. Both bills to fix the problem, however, were voted down in a Senate committee.
On Tuesday of this week, however, the Senate finally approved a "fix" that will allow those districts to start collecting sales taxes for cannabis sales within their district once again. The drafting error cost certain districts, such as the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District, more than $50,000 a month, and the Regional Transportation District $500,000 a month.
