RNESU update
Schools, teachers, students &
parents
The governor has mandated all schools in Vermont to close as of March 18 through the remainder of the school year. He indicated a decision about end of year celebrations such as graduations will be decided around May 8. He also gave three goals during that closure: feed children, provide child care for essential personnel, and provide continuity of learning. So what are our schools doing?
- RNESU schools have set up meal delivery for all households with children under 18 in our 8 towns who requested it. Delivery began March 19. If anyone wishes to be added to this list, please contact your school by phone or email with your name, number of chldren under 18, email address, phone number and physical address.
- RNESU will begin delivery of weekend meals on Friday April 24 for those who indicated a desire. We also will begin feeding homeless families in nearby hotels the week of April 20. Thank you to Abbey Services, our bus drivers, monitors and paraeducators for making this all happen.
- Teachers and staff have been providing learning packets to students since March 23. As of April 20, we shift into longer term learning packets to finish the school year.
- Families who need chromebooks for their children's schoolwork may borrow one from us. Please be in contact with your school principal for this.
- Internet wifi access is available for free to any community member in the school parking lots. You might have to seek the best spots as the wifi is extended from our school access and connection points can vary.
- Our private child care program at Whiting, A.R.K. is providing child care for essential personnel. Please contact them if you are interested, as there are limited spots due to staffing limitations. Becca Kerr, butterfly3rule2006@yahoo.com. We have also asked staff who are interested in volunteering to contact the Rutland Regional Medical Center who is setting up child care as well.
Who is working?
- Our custodians continue to clean the schools and are shifting into some summer projects while the buildings are empty.
- Teachers and counselors, with the help of paraprofessionals, are connecting with students via technology or phone.
- Paras are also helping with meal delivery, custodial services and a variety of smaller projects that are needed at this time.
- Admin assistants, administrators and central office have moved to remote work to continue to support the work of the district and support families. The best way to reach us is by phone, email or the Let's Talk button on any school or our district website.
As others have noted: the buildings may be closed but our hearts are open. Stay well.

(A message from Chamber President Pat Wood)
Health Care needs for protective masks
You can help to fill that need by sewing them!
Local hospitals, visiting nurse associations and manufacturing facilities need personal Protective masks. You can help to fill that need by sewing them! Or by supplying elastic or ribbon to those who are sewing.
Joanne Fabric is giving out kits (no contact pick up) which you can make and return. Joanne's will get them to where they are needed most. Or if you have new (unused) cotton material and elastic or ribbon you can make them with what you have. Here are some links to give you
instructions, contact and donation information
Here in Brandon, Faith Daya has been helping to coordinate efforts. She has gathered a group of volunteers who are busily working to fill an urgent request from the VNA for 500 masks. She is also in touch with local quilting groups in the Rutland and Middlebury areas who trying to supply the hospitals. This coordination between groups will help to ensure that the masks get to where they are needed most and will minimize the number of people who are going to deliver them.
At this time, material seems to be plentiful. But, we are all running out of elastic and ribbon, bias tape, or other appropriate materials to use for ties.
If you would like to coordinate with others to make masks, have
questions about construction or materials,
or if you have elastic or tie the material that you would like to donate, please contact Faith Daya

Wood's Market Garden
By the pond in Brandon
We do plan on being open in May for plant sales.
Plant sales are not considered "essential business" by the state, and so
our only option is to sell them as a pre-order with pick up
. As strange as this sounds, it's become the reality for many businesses and it will allow us to sell our beautiful plants to you beautiful people! We are working hard on an
online catalog which will be available in May
. If things change and we are allowed to be open for normal retail, we will do that. Until then, we plan to go forward with the plant sales online and over the phone.
Our plan is to be open for Mother's Day hanging basket sales.
All other plants would be available to take home the week of May 11.

Senior Citizens Center
News from Kathy Mathis
The Senior Center is closed, but we are serving the free community take out curb side pick up lunches every Friday till May 1st. Bagged lunch includes a different lunch each week with dessert included from Noon to 1:00. (may go longer if the need arises - hope and pray not) All are welcome.
Brandon Area Food Shelf needs monetary donations to keep up with the food insecurities that are arising.
No pick up at food shelf. Will deliver and put outside of door. Must call me with name, phone # and address.
People will have to understand that this drop off is not their week's worth of groceries, but just "emergency assistance" and that we all have to work together to share with a hungry neighbor.

Hannaford Supermarket
247-4113
NEW HOURS-We will be open everyday from 7am -8pm.
NEW-On Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be open from 7am -8am for seniors and high risk individuals.
At Hannaford, we're committed to helping you and your families to stay safe and healthy during this challenging time. We've implemented extensive social distancing practices and other safeguards in our store. These include limiting the number of customers that are allowed in the store at one time and also having the aisles flow one way, so please follow the arrows while shopping.
Tips for our customers to help us, who are working in the store everyday, stay safe and healthy:
Please shop alone when possible, make a list to make your shopping trip quicker, try to do one big weekly shop rather than several small ones. We stock shelves during the day so please help us with social distancing for the safety of all. We are working very hard to get the shelves stocked and full but some items are not available and out of our control. At this time we are not allowing reusable bags in the store.
Thank you all for your continued support through this challenging time.

Town Hall updates
Scheduling and other info
The Friends Of The Brandon Town Hall have been busy setting up for our 2020 season. Of course the actual opening of the hall depends on town, state and National directives. We are leaning on the side of caution and have already rescheduled all our May events to other times during the season hoping that we might be able to open by the middle of June. Once there is a definite date we will begin our normal publicity with monthly ads and weekly press releases in the Reporter, Chamber of Commerce Newsletter and other local publications.
Always check our bulletin and sign boards for updates and times. In our effort to support and help our economy rebound plus let community members continue to enjoy the events at the Brandon Town Hall, all
FOTH events for the 2020 season will be Free Will Donation events, this is possible only because of the generosity of our sponsors.
At the moment we have 25 events scheduled, mostly Saturday nights, from June 13 to December 4.
We will have something for everyone: participation in the town wide celebration for the end of Seg. 6, our popular
Silent Movie series, bands, dances, puppets, theater, Mrs. America pageant, town wide events and our 7th annual
"Brandon Has Talent Show" in September.
FOTH would like to thank all those police, fire and rescue squad personnel, senior center and food shelf, workers and staff from our schools, grocery stores, health center, gas stations, businesses, restaurants, etc., that have put themselves out there to help make this pandemic a little easier to endure. Brandon is such a special place to live and work, we will rebound and be able to enjoy our brand new town.
Looking forward to seeing you, saying hi, no handshakes or hugs, but a lot of love!! Thanks, Dennis W. Marden, Program Coordinator for the Friends of The Brandon Town Hall.

Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Announces Precautionary Measures as Part of COVID-19 Response
Transitions to Drive-Up Service Only
at
Branch Locations
In an effort to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus (COVID-19) and consistent with many other banking institutions in our region, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust will temporarily transition all branch services to drive-up only service beginning on March 20. This will allow the Bank to continue to provide full banking services, and in-person visits will be by appointment only in order to enable the Bank to conform to social distancing practices through limiting the number of customers inside at any given time.
"The health and safety of our customers, employees, and communities is of the utmost importance to us, and we are adjusting our operations to protect our employee and public health during this unprecedented time," said Curtis C. Simard, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust President and Chief Executive Officer. "Drive-up service and in-person appointments combined with our many on-line options are sensible preventative measures while continuing to provide the level of service our customers have come to expect."
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust offers a full range of tools for customers to manage their finances and get support and guidance remotely. Using Bar Harbor online and mobile banking, customers can manage their accounts, pay bills, deposit checks, transfer funds, and more - all from the comfort of their homes.
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust also has a network of more than 55 ATMs across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont that can be accessed 24/7. Visit www.barharbor.bank to learn more about these products and services.
To further enhance the safety of our employees and customers, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has been increasing cleaning efforts in its branches and offices, encouraging social distancing, and transitioning non-customer facing employees to work at home.
Customers who have questions or need assistance should call their local branch, a list of which can be found at www.barharbor.bank/about-us/atm-branch-locator. Customers can also call the Bank's Customer Service Center at 888-853-7100 for assistance.
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust Announces Resources to Help Parents Teach Their Children about Finances
Bar Harbor Bank & Trust has announced the availability of several online resources that parents can use at home to teach their children about finances. The content, which consists of worksheets, articles, coloring sheets, and more, is geared towards students K-12 and includes content for Spanish-speaking families. All of the resources can be accessed at
www.barharbor.bank/financial-education.
"Students have transitioned to remote learning because of COVID-19, and we wanted to ensure that parents had access to valuable financial education content that can be taught at home," said Joseph Schmitt, SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Bar Harbor Bank & Trust. "Learning how to save and plan for the future is more important than ever, and we hope these resources will help put children on a path to a lifetime of financial success."
The financial education content was created by the Bank's partner, The American Bankers Association (ABA) Foundation. Since 2006, the Bank, in coordination with the ABA Foundation, has sent bankers into local classrooms to teach students valuable lessons about finances and how to become smart money managing adults.
The content on the Bar Harbor Bank & Trust website covers topics such as How to Talk to Your Kids about Money, Wants vs. Needs, and Budgeting in the Real World. There is also content for high-school students planning for college.

Swan & Stone Millinery
802-318-6853
Here's what Swan&Stone Millinery is doing:
Our spring Art Shows have been cancelled (or postponed until late summer) so this spring we will be staying local, at home with our kids and in the studio.
We are a two-woman team and we each have our own studios, so our work habits are already "social distancing," and we have added lots of cleaning products, hand sanitizers and zero unplanned visits.
We continue to work on our spring and summer production--our full line of water resistant rain hats and our elegant straw sun and special occasion hats--and will focus our efforts on our website and local sales. We will be running various specials online and our hours are "by appointment only," so that we can continue to accommodate custom orders and in-studio purchases.
Our phone number is 802-318-6853, website is
www.swanandstone.com and on @Swan&Stone Millinery on Facebook and @swanandstone on Instagram.

Computer-EZ in Mendon is open regular hours, but customers are no longer allowed up the stairs to the shop with computers. They must leave them downstairs. They can talk with the tech from downstairs or on their phone.
Site visits will be curtailed for normally scheduled visits, but emergency/urgent computer and network needs relating to business continuation will be addressed immediately as usual. Protection of some sort must be in place on site and will be analyzed as need be.
We will pick up and deliver computers as needed. Please continue to use phone & email to reach us in the office, if nobody is in the office, please leave a message and feel free to reach out to Larry directly on his mobile. 802-747-8094.
All the best to everyone, be safe, and don't panic. That only makes it worse.

Rutland County Mutual Aid
If you need help and you are stuck at home, or if you think you can help those in need, please reach out to Rutland County Mutual Aid.
Rutland County Mutual Aid is a site that connects people in need with people who can help. The website has 2 surveys on it-- one for folks who are able and willing to volunteer and one for folks who may need support amidst COVID19 precautions.
The ultimate goal is to offer a place for those who need support to let their community members know
. Our team of volunteers will then help meet the needs of those folks in our community.
