Mona Lauture - 20+ years in research
Mona began her nursing career in the medical-surgical field and, after a couple of years, her career in clinical research was launched when she secured a clinical research position with the GCRU. She obtained certification in Clinical Research from BU and Chemotherapy Certification through the Dana Farber Hospital, then moved to Orlando, FL, where she worked in oncology research at the cancer research center, MD Anderson. After returning to New England, she worked at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in the Clinical Research Center. When she decided to go part-time, returning to the GCRU was an easy choice. Mona says, “I started here at Boston University… and I love the people I work with, it’s like a family.”
Jennifer Johns - 17 years in Clinical Research, 10 years in nursing
Jennifer began her career as a RN in the surgical/cardio-thoracic ICU’s and interventional cardiac catheterization labs. Recruited to work in the medical device industry led to her work in medical device development via case and animal lab support. Being a Clinical Research Associate and Case Proctor in device trials gave her a background to join the GCRU team and deepen her understanding of the path investigational pharmacology trials take. Jennifer says, “Working in the GCRU is energizing with its variety of protocol support needed, and the participants and staff with which I am fortunate to work. I am enjoying being on the ‘other side’.”

Martine Dumas - 20 years in research
While pursuing a MPH, Martine worked as a Study Coordinator for 14 years in lung cancer research. Studies led her to the GCRU where her interest in clinical research developed. She got her BSN, then worked at the VA as a NP, specializing in Adult Gerontology, and later at BU as a Clinical Research Manager. Passionate about research implementation and finding ways to make the work easier to understand and carry out, she advanced a well informed and efficient staff. She has worked 6 years as a NP in Oncology
at the Moakley Infusion Center. About working in the GCRU she says, “It’s a good place to be!”
Anh Tran - 2 years in Clinical Research, 4 years in nursing
Prior to coming to BU, Anh honed her nursing skills in the inpatient care setting, particularly in the thoracic and cardiac surgery intensive care. Her interest in clinical research developed while a student at the University of Pennsylvania, where she had the opportunity to explore research courses and assist with some studies. Working at BU GCRU allows her to expand that interest and apply her nursing skills to contribute to many exciting research studies. Anh says,
“I love working with the GCRU team
to ensure clinical research is conducted in the highest standards,
as the studies will one day affect the larger population. In the future, I hope to combine my clinical research nursing skills with the field of biostatistics.”
